Chicago at New Orleans – Hornets May Have Lost Their Stinger

February 4, 2009

The Chicago Bulls travel to New Orleans to take on the Hornets on Wednesday night. New Orleans is a dynamite team having gone 28 and 17 straight-up so far this season. New Orleans has done it even though they’ve had to suffer through some serious injuries. For sports betting fans, this team might be very good straight-up but against the BetOnline online betting spread they are downright terrible. Their record of 19-24-2 is awful. Their record against the spread at home is better percentage wise at 10-12-2 but it still isn’t very good.

Chicago just can’t get over the hump. They have some terrific players on their team with Luol Deng, Ben Gordon and Derrick Rose, but they can’t put it all together. Their record of 20 and 28 straight-up isn’t very good and their against the spread record of 22-26-1 makes them a bet against in most cases.

Here are my personal online betting odds for this game.

Chicago Bulls +4 ½ -110

New Orleans Hornets -4 ½ -110

Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.

The Chicago Bulls are 4-0-1 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.

The Home team is 4-1-1 against the spread in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

The New Orleans Hornets are 2 and 5 against the spread in their last 7 games playing on 1 day of rest

The Favorite is 5-0-1 against the spread in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Why hasn’t BetOnline released wagering odds on this game yet? Because Tyson Chandler is definitely out for the Hornets and Chris Paul is questionable.

I believe that Paul will play in this game. If he does, then a +4 ½ on the Bulls looks likely. If he doesn’t, then the Hornets will probably be favored by a single point.

Without Paul, the Hornets should lose this game straight-up.

Wait until ten minutes before the game starts before making your online bet.

I’ll be watching for information on Paul. If he plays, I like the Hornets to cover at up to -4 ½. If he doesn’t, then I like the Bulls to win straight-up.
