Check out Del Mar’s 5th in the Racebook on Friday Night, August 6th
August 7, 2010
The Los Alamitos guys came through for me on Thursday. Although Light of a Star got bet down to the second choice, the race pretty much played out exactly as I thought it would. Jockey Ramon Guce hustled Light of a Star home and I hit the win and exacta in the racebook. It didn’t pay as much as I had hoped it would, but a “win is a win” as the saying goes.
This game of hitting an online horse racing bet, or bets, isn’t easy. You have to really pay attention to every thing that goes on at the racetrack, take your shots, and then hope for the best. Sometimes you get on a winning streak. Sometimes you get on a losing streak. There are no guarantees.

I hope I get on a winning streak and believe (hope and pray!) that I’ve go the winner in Del Mar’s 5th on Friday night.

8-Pokomoke – - 4/1 morning line odds
Jockey Martin Garcia guided Lookin’ At Lucky to a victory in the Grade I Haskell Invitational. So far, his Del Mar meet hasn’t been nearly as successful. Garcia is only winning at a 6% clip at the meet, but that figures to change on Friday when Garcia steps aboard Pokomoke for trainer Jeff Mullins. Like Garcia, Mullins isn’t having a great Del Mar meet either. He’s 0 for 16. Pokomoke, however, has won her last 2 races including one going 1 1/16th miles over Hollywood Park’s cushion track. Garcia should be able to lie right off of You Can Dream early and then guide Pokomoke to victory. Pokomoke is the best online horse racing bet in the 5th at Del Mar on Friday night.
2-Look To The Sky – - 7/2 morning line odds
I don’t believe that there is a lot of speed in this. That’s why Look To The Sky could very well find herself in the garden spot about 2 to 3 lengths off of You Can Dream and Pokomoke. Look To The Sky goes first time for trainer Peter Miller, has 2 victories and 4 seconds out of 9 starts at the distance, and worked 5 furlongs in 58 and 4 over the Polytrack on July 30th. That work signals that Look To The Sky, who has 2 wins, 3 seconds, and 1 third in his last 6 races, is ready to roll.
7-You Can Dream – - 20/1 morning line odds
If nobody goes with You Can Dream, make no mistake, the long shot could take this field gate to wire. The 20 to 1 morning line underdog will get the lead. The only question is whether or not jockey Jesus Agosto Velasquez will be able to carve out slow enough fractions for her to steal it on the front end. Expect Garcia on Pokomoke and Alex Gonzalez on Look To The Sky to not press You Can Dream to hard on Friday night. That doesn’t mean that You Can Dream will go on to win the 5th at Del Mar, but it does mean that she could provide much needed value in the exotics.
Horse Wagering Strategy
This race really sets up for Pokomoke. She’s a great online horse racing bet to win this race.
I’m also going to bet an exacta with Pokomoke over You Can Dream and Look To The Sky. I will reverse that exacta for less. I’m also going to bet a trifecta with Pokomoke, Look To The Sky over Pokomoke, Look To The Sky, You Can Dream, 4-Wood Art, over ALL.
Good luck!
