CFL Football Picks – Week 13 Weekend Preview
September 25, 2010
The CFL enters Week 13 having already determined its contenders and pretenders and the CFL Football Picks reflect this notion. Four games are on tap this weekend with all but one having playoff implications.

The Montreal Alouettes welcomed stud quarterback Anthony Calvillo back into the fold last week and continued their winning ways. The Als only lost one game in Calvillo’s absence and demonstrated why they are considered the best team in the East by a mile. They are currently on a modest two game winning streak and have won three of their past four games.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers suffered yet another loss last week and have now dropped six of their past seven games. Despite running back Fred Reid’s continued strong play and the fact that the team doesn’t seem to turn the ball over, the Bombers sit in last place in the Eastern Division.
Simply put, the Montreal Alouettes are an elite squad and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in the lowest tier of CFL teams.
CFL Football Pick: Montreal Alouettes -5 ½
SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (7-4) vs. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (6-5)
Saturday, September 25, 6:30 PM ET
Spread: Hamilton -1 ½
Total: 35 ½ points
The Saskatchewan Rough Riders are a difficult team to figure out. After starting 3-0, they have alternated wins and losses in their last nine. The offense put up 636 yards of offense last week behind superb efforts from quarterback Darian Durant and running back Wes Cates. They currently have the third best scoring offense in the league and a decent defense. Most of their wins have come at home – they are a poor road team.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats had a huge come from behind victory last week after forcing five turnovers in the fourth quarter! Quarterback Kevin Glenn was effective and running back DeAndra Cobb finally broke out of his season long slump with 151 yards rushing.
Hamilton has won five of their past six games. As for Saskatchewan, if their pattern holds true, it is their turn to lose.
CFL Football Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats -1 ½
BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS (3-8) vs. CALGARY STAMPEDERS (9-2)
Saturday, September 25, 9:30 PM ET
Spread: Calgary -10 ½
Total: 55 points
The British Columbia Lions are a better team than they were early in the season but five turnovers in the fourth quarter last week ended their modest two game winning streak. Quarterback Casey Printers has looked more comfortable of late but the running game appears stuck in the mud.
The Calgary Stampeders, despite a loss last week still own the CFL’s best record. They have the league’s second best passer (Henry Burris) and the CFL’s third best running back (Joffrey Reynolds). Even though the defense gave up 636 yards last week, the Stamps still own the best defense in the league, giving up 313 yards per game.
Calgary is 5-0 at home this season and despite a loss last week, they still played an excellent game. BC is better than the CFL lines shows and I think that they can keep this game somewhat close.
CFL Football Pick: BC Lions + 10 ½
EDMONTON ESKIMOS (2-9) vs. TORONTO ARGONAUTS (6-5)
Sunday, September 26, 12:00 PM ET
Spread: Toronto – 3 ½
Total: 49 points
The Edmonton Eskimos would love to have the season end tomorrow and to start from scratch next season. They have lost three straight games and currently have the league’s worst rushing offense and the CFL’s second worst passing game. They are turning the ball over at an alarming rate and can’t seem to stop the bleeding.
The Toronto Argonauts are not much better! Despite posting a win last week, they only generated 256 yards of total offense (just 90 yards passing!) They have the worst offense in the CFL and their defense is in the bottom third in most statistical categories.
Edmonton is bad and Toronto is only slightly better. The Argos have surprisingly good special teams and that could be the difference on Sunday. Toronto at least has a few weapons while Edmonton seemingly has none.
CFL Football Pick: Toronto Argonauts – 3 ½
