CFL Football Odds – Someone’s Losing Streak Will Come to an End Friday Night

August 1, 2010

Two of the football odds on favorites in the Western Conference meet on Friday night as Week 5 continues in the CFL.

It is hard to believe that the two have only one between them so far.

The BC Lions and the Edmonton Eskimos are better than they have been playing and would love nothing more than to start a winning streak against arguably their biggest CFL rivals.

BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS (1-3) vs. EDMONTON ESKIMOS (0-4)

Friday, July 30, 9:00 PM

Commonwealth Stadium

Edmonton, Alberta

Broadcast: TSN

CFL Lines:

BC Lions: pk (-110)

Edmonton Eskimos: pk (-110)

Total: 53 ½ points – Over (110), Under (110)

The BC Lions have the CFL oddsmakers and their fans for that matter at a total loss.

1-3 is simply not acceptable for a team that was supposed to challenge for the Grey Cup this year. Injuries and poor play have plagued the Lions on both sides of the ball.

A win against Edmonton would go a long way in neutralizing the bad feelings coming out of BC’s locker room.

The offense is presently dealing with possibly the biggest injury in the CFL. Casey Printers will travel with the team to Edmonton but so far there is no indication of when he will return.

Travis Lulay will get his second professional start and although he looked OK last week against the Argos, it was ultimately a rookie mistake that was the difference in the game.

Running back Jamal Robertson finally woke up last week and scored two touchdowns.

The Lions will need him to ramp up his play, especially with Printers on the shelf. Geroy Simon and the stable of wide receivers were virtually invisible last week but should be better this week against a defense that is a notch or two below the Argos.

The Lions defense has also been poor. They are unable to stop the run and they haven’t been able to disrupt any quarterback just yet.

BC will look to take a page out of Winnipeg’s game plan and pressure pressure pressure!

Something stinks in Edmonton and yes, it’s the whole Eskimos team.

Management took it upon themselves to call each and every member of the squad out this week and has vowed to make major changes if improvement doesn’t come fast.

The Eskimos are off to their worst start in 45 years. Passion, execution and mistakes all have a hand in Edmonton’s 0-4 record.

The offense has been the problem but CFL odds are that they will right themselves eventually.

Quarterback Ricky Ray has been bad but hasn’t gotten any protection from his offensive line. Ray had just 6 yards passing after one quarter of last week’s game.

Running back Arlee Whitlock has been just as bad. He ranks near the bottom of the CFL in rushing statistics. He will need to be better too.

The Edmonton defense has been doing enough to keep them in the game. They are not Top Tier but they have definitely been holding their own.

CFL Odds Outlook:

Something has to give in Edmonton on Friday night. One of these Western powers has to wake up.

Although Over is 5-1 in the last 5 meeting between the teams, I would expect a slightly lower scoring game.

The Eskimos have lost 7 of their last 13 games at home and have lost 4 of the last 5 straight up against BC.

Both teams are better than their record indicates but one team appears a little better at this point in the season.
