CFL Football Odds – Hamilton Could Catch Montreal
September 11, 2010
The CFL Footballs odds of the Montreal Alouettes being in danger of losing top spot in the Eastern Conference half way through the season are slim but guess what? The Hamilton Tiger-Cats can catch them in the standings with a win on Saturday. The Alouettes will likely be without stud quarterback Anthony Calvillo again which slants the CFL Football odds in Hamilton’s favor.
MONTREAL ALOUETTES (6-3) vs. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (5-4)

Ivor Wynne Stadium
Hamilton, Ontario

CFL Football Odds:
Montreal: +3 (-110)
Hamilton: -3 (-110)
Total: 52 points: Over (110), Under (110)
The Montreal Alouettes learned last week just how valuable Anthony Calvillo is to their team. They were CFL Football odds favorites against the underwhelming BC Lions and lost in what was one of Montreal’s worst outings at home in years.
Montreal will be forced to start a backup quarterback fresh off the injury list on Saturday. Adrian McPherson saw some time toward the end of last season and looked OK, but he is still raw. He will have a tough time leading the otherwise potent Alouettes offense. The excellent receiving corp. will once again struggle with a new pivot at the helm.

Calvillo’s injury wouldn’t be such a factor if the Montreal running game was at the level that they have come accustomed to. Usually reliable Avon Cobourne has struggled this season and ranks a disappointing seventh in the CFL in rushing with 460 yards in nine games. He will need to step up and take some of the pressure off the unreliable passing game.
Montreal’s defense has been vulnerable against the pass all season long and could use a decent game this week. Hamilton will throw the ball meaning that a strong game is crucial.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were CFL Football odds favorites to be a player in the Eastern Conference this season but it has taken a recent four game win streak to put the team back in contention. The offense has been strong all season and now the defense appears to be peaking.
Hamilton quarterback Kevin Glenn ranks second in the CFL with 2720 yards. He is not only throwing for yardage and touchdowns but he is limiting game changing mistakes. Wide receiver Arland Bruce continues to lead the CFL is receiving yardage and he remains one of the most dangerous pass catchers in the league. You can bet your CFL Football betting dollar that Glenn and Bruce will be a huge part of the game plan on Saturday against a middle of the pack Montreal passing defense.
Running Back DeAndra Cobb continues to be a virtual non-factor out of the Tiger-Cat backfield despite running behind an offensive line that has been superb all year.
The Hamilton defense has been a bit of an anomaly this season but CFL Football odds are that their weak pass defense won’t be called upon all that much on Saturday. The defensive line that has generated 24 sacks (2nd in the CFL) will likely be the difference in the game. This unit allowed only one touchdown to Toronto last week while sacking the quarterback three times and forcing three interceptions.
CFL Football Odds Outlook:
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats can smell blood! The conditions are perfect for them to bring down Goliath. Expect the Tiger-Cats to exploit Montreal’s weak pass defense and to pressure Montreal’s quarterback all game long. Montreal will have to score point in this game to win and with Adrian McPherson directing the Alouettes offense, I can’t see it happening.
CFL Football Odds Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats -3
