CFL Football Betting – Winnipeg Tries to Stop Bleeding At Home

September 12, 2010

Your last CFL Football Betting opportunity of the week happens on Sunday when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, losers of five straight games, host the recently inconsistent Saskatchewan Rough Riders.

Things have not been easy for the Bombers this year and this week figures to be no different.

The Saskatchewan Rough Riders started the season 3-0 but have alternated wins and losses in their last six games. The Riders can’t blame their offense for the recent woes but one could point at Saskatchewan’s 1-6 SU record in their last seven games.

Quarterback Darrian Durant currently leads the CFL in passing with 2775 yards but interestingly, he is tied for most interceptions in the league with 13. Taking care of the ball is something that has been lacking but it is something that can be rectified, particularly against a team like Winnipeg who has the least amount of turnovers in the Easter Conference.

Saskatchewan’s defense has not been generating many turnovers either. On the season the unit only has 11 interceptions, and seven of them have been by one guy – James Patrick.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers knew the risk of signing injury prone Buck Pierce and the gamble backfired. Pierce damaged his elbow last week and may not see the field again this season.  At least they have a somewhat experienced backup. Steven Jyles has already covered for Pierce for five games this season.

He’s been OK but he certainly doesn’t provide huge CFL Football Betting optimism.

Running Back Fred Reid is going to have to be the man for the Blue Bombers in this game. Saskatchewan is OK against the run, but they will be able to stack the box in anticipation of a run heavy offensive scheme.

Defensively, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been able to stop nobody. They have allowed the most points in the Eastern Conference and are particularly bad against the pass – for which Saskatchewan excels.

CFL Football Betting Outlook:

Saskatchewan needed to score late to defeat Winnipeg last week but this week they won’t get caught off guard. The win/loss pattern for the Riders says that it is time to lose but I think that they buck that trend this week. With Steven Jyles running the offense, Winnipeg is a below average team and Saskatchewan is a good team.

Saskatchewan is a bad road team but I like them to cover this week.

CFL Football Betting Pick: Saskatchewan Rough Riders -4
