CFL Football Betting – Struggling Teams Winnipeg and Hamilton Play for 3rd in the East

August 7, 2010

The Winnipeg Bluebombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats meet for the third time this season having split the first two games.

The CFL Betting world has a big decision to make about where to lay their dough with each team blowing out the other on their home field.

With the Toronto Argonauts seemingly falling back to earth in the standings, both teams have a chance to climb back in the race for second place.

WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (2-3) vs. HAMILTON TIGER-CATS (1-4)

Hamilton, Ontario

Broadcast: TSN

CFL Betting Lines:

Total: 53 ½ points: Over (110), Under (110)

The Winnipeg Bluebombers are a dropped touchdown catch away from a winning record and will look to take out their frustrations on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Saturday.

Winnipeg has played fairly good football so far and probably deserve better than their 2-3 record.

The Winnipeg offense has been fine this season. After losing their starting quarterback, the offense hasn’t missed a beat with Steven Jyles at the helm. The offense has scored 157 points so far this season, good for third place in the CFL.

They have 15 offensive touchdowns which is second in the league. Running Back Fred Reid had a slow start to the season but has come to life in the last few weeks.

Wide Receiver Terrance Edwards, fresh off a 6 catch 162 yard, 1 touchdown performance is tops in the CFL with 545 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Winnipeg’s offense will be fine and will likely have to do without Buck Pierce once again this week.

The Winnipeg defense will be the key in this game. They have held their own so far this season and have given them a chance to win every week.

Hamilton has just one win on the season and it came three weeks ago against the Winnipeg Bluebombers.

They are winless on the road (0-3) so Ivor Wynn Stadium will be a welcome sight. The Bombers did an OK job of keeping the Calgary Stampedes out of the end zone last week but still allowed a ton of points, thanks to kicker Luca Congi.

The defense has allowed 153 points already this season and will need to tighten up in order to be successful.

The Tiger-Cats offense has been OK but has not been getting any help from their running game at all.

DeAndra Cobb has just 202 yards on the ground so far this season on a team that is dead last in the CFL with 353 combined rushing yards.

Quarterback Kevin Glenn has passed for at least 330 yards in three of his last four games and Wide Receiver Arlan Bruce woke up last week with a mind boggling 16 catches, 272 yards and two touchdowns.

He has had trouble with Winnipeg in the past but with a performance like last week, there is reason for optimism in Hamilton.

CFL Betting Outlook:

This has all the makings of a close game. Both teams are playing slightly better than their records indicate.

Some interesting CFL betting trends are as follows:

  • Bluebombers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games.
  • Tiger-Cats are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss.
  • Over is 7-1 in Bluebombers last 8 vs. East.
  • Over is 5-1 in Bluebombers last 6 vs. a team with a losing record.
  • Over is 5-1 in Bluebombers last 6 Saturday games.
  • Over is 4-1 in Bluebombers last 5 games following a S.U. loss.
  • Over is 4-1 in Tiger-Cats last 5 games in August.
  • However, Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Hamilton.

CFL Betting Pick: Hamilton Tiger-Cats -3 to keep the home winning trend going in the series.
