CFL Football Bets – Can Toronto Put a Nail in Winnipeg’s Coffin?
September 19, 2010
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are coming off a huge win versus Saskatchewan last week and while some may be tempted to place their CFL Football bets on them against the struggling Toronto Argonauts, consider that Winnipeg is 0-5 SU and 2-3 ATS on the road so far this season. On the flip side, Toronto is 3-1 SU and ATS at home this year. Winnipeg needs to win this weekend or they can all but kiss their playoff aspirations good-bye.
WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS (3-7) vs. TORONTO ARGONAUTS (5-5)
Sunday, September 19, 1:00 PM ET
Rogers Centre
Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast: TSN
CFL Football Bets:
Winnipeg: pk (-110)
Toronto: pk (-110)
Total: 51 ½ points: Over (-110), Under (-110)
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a disappointing 3-7 SU and 4-5 ATS so far this season and yet they are only two games out of second place in the Eastern Conference. If last week’s outcome is any indication of what the Blue Bombers are capable of, they may just challenge for a playoff spot yet.

The Bombers will once again be forced to rely on backup quarterback Steven Jyles, so adjust your CFL Football bets accordingly. It may not be such a bad thing however. Jyles has been OK in his many relief appearances for Buck Pierce and was at the helm for Winnipeg’s impressive 31-2 beat down of Saskatchewan last week. Jyles was efficient on his way to a 19 completion, 23 attempt, 169 yard, one touchdown performance.
Jyles has the benefit of the second leading yards from scrimmage running back, Fred Reid. Reid has 987 total yards and is third in the CFL with 806 yards rushing. Wide receiver Terrance Edwards is second in the league with 50 catches for 819 yards and seven touchdowns.
Despite giving up only two points and 199 total yards last week, the Bombers defense is still among the worst in the league in most statistical categories.
Remember when the Toronto Argonauts were 5-2? Remember when their play warranted some CFL Football bets? Those days are gone and three straight losses have the Argos searching for answers.
Toronto’s offense ranks seventh in points for, is second worst in the league with 22 points per game and has a CFL low nine passing touchdowns. Quarterback Cleo Lemon has experienced his share of growing pains but appears to be improving slightly with every game.
Running back Cory Boyd continues to be Toronto’s only real threat. He is currently best in the CFL in yards from scrimmage (1051) and in rushing yards (903). Boyd only got 11 touches last week and was a huge reason that the Argos lost to BC.
CFL Football Bets Outlook:
The Toronto Argonauts are 2-4 SU in the last six meetings with Winnipeg and the home team is 4-6 SU and ATS in the last 10 games in the series. Winnipeg should be the more motivated team in this game and their third ranked offense should prove too much for Toronto’s seventh ranked defense. The Eastern Conference playoff picture is about to get a little more cloudy!
