Celtics at Nuggets – No KG, No Problem
February 24, 2009
The Boston Celtics absolutely blasted the Phoenix Suns on Sunday despite not having all-star forward Kevin Garnett, winning 128-108 as a 2-point road underdog on Sunday. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (221.5) as blossoming point guard Rajon Rondo scored a game and career-high 32 points to go along with 10 assists for Boston while all-star shooting guard Ray Allen added 31 points in the win.
The Nuggets dropped their second consecutive game on Sunday, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks 120-117 as a 3.5-point road favorite while the combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (209.5).
High-scoring forward Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets with 33 points and veteran point guard Chauncey Billups added 21 points in the loss.
Here is a look at the key NBA betting trends for each team, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Picks:
Boston is 10-1 SU in its last 11 games on the road
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Boston’s last 7 games when playing Denver
Boston is 16-3 SU in its last 19 games
Boston is 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games on the road
Denver is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Denver’s last 7 games when playing Boston
Denver is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games when playing at home against Boston
Denver is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing at home against Boston
NBA Odds
Boston Celtics -1½ -110
Denver Nuggets +1½ -110
Over 199 -110
Under 199 -110
Analysis: While the Celtics will be without all-star forward Kevin Garnett for approximately three weeks, if you saw their absolute demolition of the defenseless Phoenix Suns on Sunday, you’ll know the C’s can still hang with any team in the league even without ‘The Big Ticket.’
The Celtics have won and covered the spread in three of its last four and should be able to handle the Nuggets, who are back at home tonight, following their eight-game road trip.
With two defensive-minded teams taking the floor tonight, I say take the C’s for the outright win and the Under.
NBA Free Picks: Under 199 Total Points/Celtics -1½ Points
