Carolina vs. Arizona Preview – Jake Delhomme’s Final Game?
November 2, 2009
There’s a great feature in an upcoming edition of Blitz that talks about when the right time to walk away from a quarterback is. For the Cardinals, they’ve had their heir apparent waiting with a clip board (Leinart) because Kurt Warner is currently a top-10 guy. It’s been tough to stomach a 38-year old starter under center, but the results speak for themselves.
Arizona averaged 269.5 yards through the air and 22.7 points per game. They’ve used the trio of Fitzgerald-Breaston-Boldin phenomenally and the creative coaching of Ken Wisenhunt has really given defenses headaches. The Panthers give up just 149.7 yards through the air, but the Cards are coming off a brilliant display against a usually stiff secondary in New York against the Giants.
The elephant in the room of this game is going to be revisiting Jake Delhomme’s horrific 5-pick performance in last season’s playoffs. Delhomme is not doing anything to bolster the betting backers he has left, going just 1-5 ATS this season. Could this be his last game?
Carolina Panthers (1-5) vs. Arizona Cardinals (4-2)
Sunday, November 1st — University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale — 4:15pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Arizona -10 (41.5)
The truth is that Carolina has nobody to turn to in their depth chart at quarterback. Jake may not be the best bet for the Panthers, but he’s the only play they have. That spread is dangerously high for the Cardinals, but all I can think of Jake’s pick-per-game season and his terrifying display against the Red Birds in the playoffs.
The Panthers would be smart to lean on the ground game, but intelligence isn’t a strong suit of Jon Fox. Bet on the coaching genius of Ken Wisenhunt, Russ Grimm and the savvy play making of Kurt Warner.
Furious Free Pick: Arizona -10 (UNDER)
