Carolina at Pittsburgh NFL Lines Pick – Can Steelers Finish Strong?
September 2, 2010
The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a lot to sort out heading into the final preseason game, and tonight, they also have a lot of points in the NFL line to cover as they take on the Carolina Panthers at home. This could be an exciting NFL game for the hardcore fans who like to watch all the final roster battles unfold as players will be battling hard with roster spots on the line in the Steel City.
Can Carolina cover the spread and can Pittsburgh get better quarterback play heading into the opening week?

Carolina at Pittsburgh
7:30 pm ET, Heinz Field
NFL line: Pittsburgh favored at -6.
One trend to keep an eye on in this game is the expected extra playing time for Panthers quarterback Matt Moore, who has completed less than 50 percent of his passes in the preseason. It may be due to poor play or it may be due to a lack of talent or inability to get into a rhythm so far with Steve Smith and Jonathan Stewart hurt, but indications are that the Panthers will play Moore a little extra tonight in order to give him more time to work out all the issues he has been experiencing.
That could have a large bearing on the NFL line or it could simply be a sign that Moore might not be the answer at quarterback for the Panthers.
The Steelers also have two quarterabcks fighting for the starting job to replace the suspended Ben Roethlisberger going into the year as Dennis Dixon has generally out-performed Byron Leftwich on the season.
This game could mean a lot to both guys meaning this game will be more competitive and played at a higher level than many other preseason NFL game matchups this weekend.
Expect Leftwich and Dixon to come out throwing against a younger Carolina Panthers defense and the Steelers to get an early lead tonight before coasting to an easy victory. Pittsburgh is 7-4 all-time against Carolina in the preseason and also scored a 21-10 road win over the Panthers during last year’ preseason slate.
The Steelers have a lot of depth on the lines and they will wear the Panthers down over the course of this one while Leftwich and Dixon compete to win over the coaches.
NFL line pick: Pittsburgh Steelers (-6).
