Boston Red Sox vs Colorado Rockies – Baseball Betting Odds
June 24, 2010
After a crushing loss in Wednesday night’s baseball betting odds, the Red Sox will look to bounce back Thursday.
Can they do it, against a Rockies team looking for a sweep?
Wednesday night was lining up to be one of those monumental victories that defined the early season for the Red Sox.
Boston Red Sox (43-20 SU, 32-41 R/L, 36-32-5 O/U) at
Colorado Rockies (38-33 SU, 37-34 R/L, 28-41-2 O/U)
Thursday, June 24: 8:40 p.m.
Betting Odds:
Boston: + 1 ½, -200, -105 (Daisuke Matsuzaka-R)
Colorado: -1 ½, +170, -115 (Jason Hammel-R)
Total Runs:
Over 9 ½: -105
Under 9 ½: -115
They had roughed up baseball’s best pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez for six earned runs (After the righty hadn’t given up more than three earned in any start this season) and led 6-5 heading into the ninth. However closer Jonathan Papelbon couldn’t hold the lead, and the Red Sox fell 8-6 after a Jason Giambi walk-off home run.
Heading to the mound on Thursday for Boston, is righty Daisuke Matsuzaka. Matsuzaka was masterful before a forearm injury sent him to the disabled list earlier this month. He has allowed three runs or less in five of his last six starts, but hasn’t pitched since June 7. Baseball betting fans need to be wary backing Matsuzaka.
Opposing him on the mound will be another pitcher who has bounced back well of late, Jason Hammel. After an early season injury stint, Hammel has been stupendous, as he is 5-1 with a 2.05 ERA, since returning from the disabled list on May 15. He hasn’t given up an earned run over his last 21.1 innings of work. Simply staggering.
As for the offenses in this one, the advantage certainly has to go to Boston. After some early season struggles, the Red Sox are ripping the cover off the ball, leading baseball with 5.44 runs per game. Adrian Beltre tops this surprisingly lineup, with a .336 batting average.
Colorado’s offense isn’t nearly as deep, but still effective with Troy Tulowitzki leading them with a .306 batting average, while also hitting nine home runs.
However, despite all the big bats in this one, the talk should be on the pitchers, because baseball bettors are in for a treat. Those same baseball bettors should be backing the Rockies.
For all the talk about Ubaldo Jimenez this year, it’s been Hammel who has been their better pitcher over the last few weeks.
The guy hasn’t given up an earned run since June 1, in the process lowering his ERA two full runs. In the meantime, the Rockies have won his last five starts.
While no one is sure what we’ll get from Matsuzaka this evening, Hammel is all but assured to pitch deep into this one, and get a victory. Take him and the Rockies in your Thursday baseball bet.
Aaron’s Pick: Colorado Run Line (-1 ½, +170)
