Boston Head West – Celtics at Mavericks

February 12, 2009

Okay BetOnline NBA sports betting fanatics, after correctly predicting the Boston Celtics (43-11 SU, 30-24 ATS, 25-28-1 O/U) win on Wednesday night, I am back with what should amount to another winning wager in the BetOnline Sportsbook this evening.

The C’s bounced back nicely from a loss the last time out, beating the New Orleans Hornets 89-77 on Wednesday night.

The Celtics covered the spread for BetOnline NBA sports betting backers as a 7-point road favorite as all-star small forward Paul Pierce scored 30 points on 10-for-19 shooting from the field and fellow all-star Kevin Garnett added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Dallas Mavericks (31-20 SU, 24-27 ATS, 24-27 O/U) have won two straight games and six of seven coming into tonight’s showdown with the league’s defending champs.

The Mavs laid into the lowly Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, winning 118-100 to easily cover the spread as 10.5-point home favorites in the BetOnline Sportsbook.

Shooting guard Antoine Wright and small forward Josh Howard each scored a team-high 23 points while all-star forward Dirk Nowitzki added 21 points.

Here is a look at the key trends for each team, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Picks.

The Celtics are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU win of more than 10 points.

The Celtics are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games.

The Mavericks are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

The Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.

The Over is 4-0 in Celtics last 4 games following a S.U. win.

The Over is 5-1 in Mavericks last 6 games playing on 1 days rest.

The Celtics are 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

The Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

The Underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

NBA Odds

Boston Celtics -2½ -110

Dallas Mavericks +2½ -110

Over 196½ -110

Under 196½ -110

Analysis: I know the Dallas Mavericks are playing pretty solid basketball at the moment and the Boston Celtics will likely be without shooting guard Ray Allen who suffered a hyper extended thumb in Wednesday’s win, but I’m thinking this contest is going to turn out very similar to Wednesday’s 89-77 win over the New Orleans Hornets.

The fact of the matter is that the Mavericks have been maddeningly inconsistent for stretches this season while Boston plays the same type of ball every night.

I like the Celtics to win this contest and narrowly cover the spread in a defensive battle.

NBA Free Picks: Celtics -3½ Points/Under 196½ Total Points
