Boston College Will Cover the 3-Point NCAA Football Line

Most football handicappers, 67% of them at this point, believe that the Boston College Eagles will cover the 3-point NCAA football betting odds in their game versus Wake Forest on Saturday.

The BC Eagles haven’t been that bad in 2010 considering that it’s a rebuilding year for them. They’ve shown that if any ACC team wants to take them lightly (I’m talking to you, Clemson!) that they’re going to punish that team. The Eagles are only 3 and 5 straight up but they’re 2 and 1 ATS in their last 3 games and were on the verge of upsetting Florida State as a 21 ½ point NCAA football line underdog on Oct. 16th.

BC lost to FSU 19 to 24 in that game, but came back two weeks later to take down Clemson 16 to 10 as 7-point dogs. Can they cover the spread as the favorite against the Demon Deacons on Nov. 6th?

The trends actually favor the Demon Deacons in this game.

• The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 games on field turf.
• The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 10 and 4 ATS in their last 14 home games.
• The Boston College Eagles are 0 and 6 ATS in their last 6 games as the favorite.
• The Boston College Eagles are 2 and 6 ATS in their last 8 conference games.

The trends are very interesting because based on how BC played versus Florida State and their victory over Clemson, most football handicappers would have expected an NCAA football line around Boston College -6 in this game.

But the ncaaf trends have obviously affected the odds makers’ belief in how the public will bet this game. Personally, I believe that the football odds should be Boston College -7 ½ in this game, much less -3.

I have to agree with my handicapping peers on this one. The Boston College Eagles are heads and tails better than the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. After opening the season with two straight victories, the Demon Deacons have gone on to lose 6 games in a row. They are 2 and 4 ATS during the losing streak and have been outscored 265 to 106. What’s most alarming is that Wake Forest allowed Maryland, a team that averages 324 yards and 31 points a game, to amass 446 yards, an incredible 28 first downs, and 62 points against them.

Wake Forest just doesn’t have the defense to keep Boston College out of the end zone, oh, say, 7 or 8 times? Boston College proved in their 16 to 10 victory over Clemson that they can play defense. So, expect the Eagles to keep Wake Forest under 30 points in this game.

Wake Forest is dreaming if they believe they’re going to keep Boston College under 30 points in this game. I just don’t see how BC doesn’t put this game away by the end of the 3rd quarter. Boston College should romp by at least 14 points in this one.
