Big 12 Men’s Championship – Baylor, Missouri Favored in Online Sportsbook Tonight

March 9, 2011

The Baylor Bears have a star in the making that needs to make a bigger impact in the online sportsbook than he’s done so far. The Bears are -7.0 point favorites tonight against the lowly Sooners, but are also just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last 5 games. Of course much of that can be explained because they’ve had to face ranked teams like Missouri, Texas A&M and Texas. That shouldn’t be happening when you have Perry Jones on your team.

Oklahoma Sooners (13-17) vs. Baylor Bears (18-12)

Wednesday, March 9th — Sprint Center — 7:00pm EST

NCAAB Online Sportsbook Line: Baylor -7.0

Jones needs a big statement to be taken seriously in the upcoming NBA Draft. Jones is considered the best athlete at the college level, but his IQ for the game hasn’t been great. He’s averaged 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season, but has only averaged 11.0 points per game in his last 5 games.

Baylor was simply supposed to be a bigger threat with the combination of LaceDarius Dunn and Jones. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound Dunn has done his part with 19.8 points per game, but he’s not a one man army and it shows in the recent record of Baylor in the online sportsbook.

It’s incredibly difficult to measure how Baylor will perform in the matchup against Oklahoma mostly because the Sooners are a team that gets blown out by good teams and they hand on against mid-level teams. Their 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS record puts them squarely in that questionable territory, and it certainly doesn’t help that Baylor has fallen apart in the last month of NCAAB online sportsbook betting either. This game really puts you in between a rock and a hard place.

Still, I think that Baylor is the type of team that pulls it together when it comes to tournament time and Oklahoma isn’t about to step in its way. A line of -7.0 is a bit too big considering Baylor’s faults lately, so I’ll take the number on Oklahoma but I still like Jones and Dunn to get the job done in the win column.

NCAAB Online Sportsbook Pick – Oklahoma +7.0 (Baylor to win)

The Missouri Tigers are one of the better teams in the country, but they’re playing in a perilous conference that boasts Kansas and Texas. Their recent four-point loss to the Jayhawks to end the season pushed the online sportsbook line but also dropped them in to a three game losing streak. Missouri is now 4-3 SU and 3-3-1 ATS in their last 7 games.

Texas Tech was one of the cagier NCAAB betting plays at the tail end of the season, going 2-7 SU in their last 9 games with an inverted 6-3 ATS record to boot. They’re especially cheeky against the double digit spreads, going 5-4 ATS in nine games with a huge handicap. Considering that this game is at a neutral location, however, I’m not thrilled about Missouri’s chances.

Texas Tech Raiders (13-18) vs. Missouri Tigers (22-9)

Wednesday, March 9th — Sprint Center — 9:30pm EST

NCAAB Online Sportsbook Line: Missouri -10.5

They’re just 3-8 ATS on the road this season and while Tech isn’t the best bet on the road either, Missouri has been so wobbly on the online sportsbook betting line that I can’t encourage a take on them even though I expect them to win.

NCAAB Online Sportsbook Pick – Texas Tech +10.5 (Missouri to win)
