BetOnline Series of the Week  – Yankees Stay West To Face Angels

The New York Yankees have won five straight series to start the year, which matches a record from 1926, and they’ll look to keep building on it as they face the Angels over the weekend.  If you are looking to bet on baseball the odds for the series will be available after midnight EST Friday in the BetOnline sportsbook.

New York Yankees @ Los Angeles Angels
April 23rd – April 25th
Broadcast: YES, FSW

A.J. Burnett (2-0) vs Ervin Santana (1-2)
Friday, 10:05 PM ET

Ervin Santana has already faced the Yankees once this year and the results weren’t pretty. He gave up eight hits, two home runs and five earned runs in just 5.2 innings of work. Overall, he has struggled mightily this year outside of his complete game against Toronto. In his other two starts, Santana has allowed nine earned runs in 11.2 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Burnett hasn’t faced the Angels this year but posted a 4.25 ERA against them last season with a record of 1-0 (two starts). He’s pitched seven innings in each of his last two starts and given up just 12 hits and two earned runs combined in those two outings.

The Yankees have the pitching edge here and combined with momentum, should get the win in the first game of this series.

Pick: Yankees

Andy Pettitte (2-0) vs Joel Pineiro (2-1)
Saturday, 4:10 PM ET

Andy Pettitte has given up just three earned runs in 20 innings pitched this season but the Angels could give him some trouble. Anaheim typically pounds left-handed hitting and should give Pettitte some problems. The Angels rocked Pettitte the three times they saw him in 2009 as he finished with a record of 0-2 and an ERA of 7.88.

Pineiro already had one sparkling outing against the Yankees this year and while they’ll make some adjustments, back at home, he can be very effective against them again. He allowed just five hits and one run in seven innings last week and he’ll post similar numbers this Saturday.

Pick: Angels

Javier Vazquez (1-2) vs Scott Kazmir (1-1)
Sunday, 3:35 PM ET

Vazquez is one of the few Yankees pitchers that is struggling right now but then again, Kazmir hasn’t been much better.

Vazquez gave up four earned in 5.1 innings pitched against the Angels on April 14th while Kazmir lasted only four innings while giving up six earned runs – and three home runs – to the Yankees on April 15th.

If you are a baseball betting fan, the Yankees are playing with a lot of confidence right now and their bats are clicking. In other words, in a matchup where pitching won’t be so much of a factor – at least not starting pitching – expect the Yankees to win the rubber match and take the series from the Angels on Sunday.
