Two huge stakes races are on tap this weekend as Calder Racecourse in Florida will run the Grade III My Charmer Handicap and Hollywood Park will run the Grade I Hollywood Turf Cup.

Rutherienne will be the chalk but on paper she’s not any better than some of the others in here. I’m going with Waquoit’s Love who finished behind Jade Queen in her last but certainly has the ability to run with these. Waquoit’s Love will be closing into some serious fractions and her past class says she could easily win this. Jade Queen is going to be very tough. Trained by Todd Pletcher this will be her second start off of a layoff which is a 23% winning move for Pletcher. She deserves mentioning to finish second. For third, Rutherienne is the online horse bet. She’s the absolute class of this field and the speed is going to be vicious. That will set up her closing kick.

Hollywood Park – - Race 8

Grade I Hollywood Turf Cup

For Three Year Olds and Up

1 ½ miles on turf

Champs Elysees will be the chalk but the three year old Winchester should be tough to deny in this spot. Winchester finished in seventh place, 12 lengths behind the winner, in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in his last. He was just outclassed in that race but there’s a reason that trainer Dermont Weld has kept Winchester in the states. Jockey Patrick Smullen flies over to ride. Champs Elysees is the class of the race and a second place finish should definitely be in the offering. Trainer Bobby Frankel hasn’t gotten the absolute best out of this guy yet. He might never. But the horse is still good enough to win this. High Heel Sneakers is a sneaky good speed play in a race with a bunch of turf closers. Class should prevail in this which means Sneakers can’t win but she could certainly hang on for third.
