Betting on NFL Week 7 – Free Picks
October 20, 2010
A blunder-filled weekend of pro football betting is behind us, and a chance to catch some early value in NFL picks for Week 7 is already here. Gotta love the sportsbooks. If you thought we’d have some clarity about the NFL betting season by Week 7, then you’re as wrong as I was in my early NFL picks last week.
Still, if you’re going to bet on NFL game lines this week, there’s reason to believe that you can catch some gold early on for these matchups.

As always, home team in caps and lines are subject to change between now and Sunday.
San Francisco 49ers -3.0 over CAROLINA PANTHERS
Hey look at that – Matt Moore’s back! A desperate and obvious “I am so terrified of getting fired I’m going to screw with the future of the franchise and bench my real starting quarterback” move by Jon Fox, who is probably the safest coach amongst the hot seat trio of Lovie Smith and Jack Del Rio.
It’s not that I like the Niners for defending their house against Oakland, and covering in the process. This has way more to do with the fact that I simply don’t trust Carolina. I also can’t deny that San Francisco could get dangerously hot given some momentum, which is exactly what they have right now.
They’re definitely a team worth keeping your eye on, and the public probably hates Carolina so much right now that the Niners should be a sharp bet earlier in the week, as this line could well rise.
ATLANTA FALCONS -3.5 over Cincinnati Bengals
They’re blowout loss to Philadelphia had, “guess what, you idiots: nothing is getting handed to you this season,” written all over it. A wake up call for the Falcons will ring more bells for the hapless Bengals as they hit the road with a 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS road record dogging them.
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS -2.5 over St. Louis Rams
Why do I keep including the Bucs in the early picks? Because they have great football lines to bet on. Listen, with a lack of information on injuries, depth chart updates and all that, it’s impossible to grade the games with big spreads. The Bucs are pretty much the “have to beat them to be considered a contender” team of the season, kind of like Detroit. Losses to New Orleans and Pittsburgh indicate on their schedule, as does a win over Cincinnati.
I love St. Louis, but they’re impossible to trust on the road right now. They’ll always play lights out at home, but when they’re traveling I downgrade them pretty low. A tight slugfest between two teams that are already looking towards 2011 and 2012 should be a delight to watch (and I don’t mean that sarcastically).
Minnesota Vikings +3.0 over GREEN BAY PACKERS
What do Green Bay and Brett Favre have in common? They’re both falling apart at the seams. Green Bay is the, “holy crap get off the bandwagon now!!!” team of the season, especially with all their injuries and curious losses. They’ve also never beaten Brett Favre.
As for the Vikings, they’ve got a, “we’ve sucked for a month, and our quarterback might be thrown to the wolves, but hell we’re going to go on a run because we believe in each other,” stamp right across their foreheads. Expect big victories for the purple and gold, starting with Dallas and continuing in Lambeau Field on Sunday Night, where they capitalize on some juicy odds as a road dog in my early picks for Week 7 NFL.
