BetFlix Update – Gary Payton Weighs In On Saturday’s NBA Playoff Picks

April 24, 2010

You’re getting a double dose of Gary Payton this weekend as we trudge through the NBA playoff betting gauntlet. The Locker Room writers have a stranglehold on your NBA free picks, but if you need some more pearls of advice to string around your neck, than let GP talk your ear off. Again, with his gigundo gumball machine backing him up, Payton fearlessly throws you some NBA playoff betting bones.

Gary’s Prediction #1 – “Don’t Think Charlotte Got A Chance”
Maybe I was a little too aggressive with my choice for Charlotte to up-end the Orlando Magic. While the Magic’s chances to go deep seriously hinder on Vince Carter’s ability to win at least a couple games in the clutch (good luck with that, by the way, Orlando), the Bobcats aren’t posing much of a threat. They’re done 0-2 SU and 1-1 ATS and though Charlotte is showing some fight, they’re too young and raw to succeed in the playoffs. Gary Payton’s got the Magic’s back. I suggest you do too, especially with their 6-2 ATS streak on the road heading in to this game.

Gary’s Prediction #2 – “Atlanta Will Beat Milwaukee Easily”
Gary gives props to the Milwaukee Bucks, and it’s rightfully deserved. This is going to be a very dangerous, young team down the stretch. But without Bogut, they don’t have a chance. Atlanta is too big and burly, and is focused to prove themselves no matter how much parity there is in this matchup.

Like GP, I’m worried about how the Bucks’ home crowd reacts to the playoffs. Still, the safe money is on the Atlanta Hawks who are 5-0 ATS in their past 5 games. Jennings is as pure of a scorer as rookies get, but his supporting cast isn’t strong enough to survive the onslaught of Atlanta’s six-man rotation.

Gary’s Prediction #3 – “Lakers In A Little Dilemma”
If you’re a faction of the basketball betting public that hates the L.A. Lakers, then you must love the way the pesky Oklahoma City Thunder are playing. Kevin Durant gave the Lakers all they could handle to steal Game 3, and while it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of an underdog’s bandwagon, GP isn’t buying it. He loves his former team, and former teammate Kobe Bryant in this one. Lakers go up 3-1 SU in the series and put the Thunder on the ropes.

Gary’s Prediction #4 – “Portland Has To Be Aggressive”
Nobody believes in Portland, especially after they got shellacked in the past two games by an average point differential of -24.0 points in Games 2 and 3. But Payton isn’t shying away from Portland, who he believes can step up their intensity and level the field in Game 4 against Phoenix. This is probably the only pick I don’t like of Gary’s, but who the hell am I to question the man? Gary sees this series getting tied up in a 2-2 SU knot, but I’m going against him. Where do you stand?
