BetFlix Update – Gary Payton Breaks Down Suns-Lakers With Style

May 13, 2010

Everyone is clamoring for reasons to back the Phoenix Suns as underdogs in the Western Conference Finals, but it’s hard to find reasons to back these boys as they slam in to the great wall of the L.A. Lakers. If you need more reasons to place some smart NBA betting picks in the sportsbook, the one and only Gary Payton is here to dish out his fresh wisdom.

Check out the video with his lovely wife, Monique, below and get ready for Mrs. Payton to tell you who her real love is:

As you’d assume the former Lakers point-man is backing his old team, and it’s extremely hard to argue against it. While Kobe remains the game’s most deadly assassin, the team behind him is absolutely stacked. With Gasol, Odom and Bynum offering a towering and intimidating front court, Amar’e Stoudemire will have a tough task to accomplish when this series kicks off in Los Angeles at the STAPLES Center on Monday night.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Monday, May 17th — STAPLES Center — 9:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Lakers -6.5 (210.5)

The Lakers are also riding high after getting pushed around by the Oklahoma City Thunder on the NBA betting line earlier in the playoffs. After starting the post season 1-4 ATS, the Lakers have since gone 4-1-1 ATS in their past 6 games. At home this season, they were an awful 16-24-1 ATS, but the playoffs are a different matter.

The saving grace for Phoenix will only be if Robin Lopez comes back at full form to offer another big body to bang the Lakers around underneath the rim. With Lopez, the Suns are a completely different team and finished the regular NBA betting season with a 24-17 ATS record on the road.

Without him, no team has been a better NBA playoff bet than the Phoenix Suns. They’re 8-2 ATS thus far in NBA playoff betting and they continue to thrive under the leadership of Steve Nash and Grant Hill. As I said before, there’s a lot to like about them from a personal standpoint.

From a betting standpoint, however, myself, Gary Payton and his wife, Monique, will remind you that the Lakers have tons to like from a betting standpoint. They control games extremely well, and if games are tight down the stretch, there’s perhaps nobody you’d rather want closing out the game than Kobe Bryant.

We’ll see you on Monday with a bigger breakdown of Game 1 specifically, but heed the warnings of Gary Payton: the Lakers are taking this series.

NBA Futures Series Price – Phoenix +250  /  Lakers -350
