Bet Online When New Mexico Takes on #6 San Diego State

Hoops handicappers should bet online when the New Mexico Lobos battle #6 San Diego State on the road on Wednesday, February 16th.

The SDSU Aztecs are a close to 11 point favorite in the sportsbook to take down the Lobos on Wednesday. The Aztecs are clearly one of the top teams on the West Coast, and probably the top team in the MWC, a conference that also boasts BYU and UNLV, but New Mexico will be fighting for March Madness consideration from the Big Dance Committee on Feb. 16th.

Will the Lobos find a way to keep the game close or will San Diego State hand New Mexico their 9th straight up loss of the season?

• The New Mexico Lobos are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 road games.

• The San Diego State Aztecs are 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 games versus a team with a winning straight up record.

• The San Diego Aztecs are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS victory.

One of the bet online trends that I don’t put a bullet next to is the one that says the New Mexico Lobos are 6 and 1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in San Diego.

That’s a powerful trend, right? Not necessarily. Up until this season, San Diego State wasn’t even considered the best team in the MWC much less the entire West Coast. The Aztecs weren’t even ranked until they upset usual West Coast heavyweight Gonzaga 79 to 76 as +6 point dogs in their second game of the season. Then, the Aztecs weren’t ranked in the Top 10, but victory, after victory, after victory occurred and now San Diego State is #6 in the nation.

The Aztecs could make a case for a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament were they to win out during the regular season. In any case, SDSU has done enough to secure at least a #3 seed and possibly a #2 seed unless they flat out blow it from now until March Madness. The bet online future book odds haven’t been set on SDSU’s chances of winning the Big Dance, but I suggest that once the odds are set, teams should jump on the Aztecs.

BYU needed a 43 point outburst by Jimmer Fredette in order to beat SDSU in the Aztecs’ one loss. Knowing San Diego State, they won’t let Fredette rock them like that again. So, if the Aztecs are so good, do the Lobos have any shot of keeping this game close on Feb. 16th?

I don’t think so. New Mexico is 3-6-1 against the spread on the road overall this season while the Aztecs are 7 and 4 against the spread at home this season. San Diego State should be able to cover the bet online odds in this game by doing what they always do, play good defense and be efficient on offense.
