Bet Online – Hot Marquette Battles L’Ville and #21 Vandy Gets a Breather
March 10, 2011
The hot Marquette Golden Eagles, as a likely underdog again in the sports betting book, battles the #14 Louisville Cardinals in the night cap to the Big East Conference Tournament play today.
Marquette versus Louisville isn’t the only game tonight that hoops handicappers should be paying attention to. #21 Vanderbilt gets what should be a breather versus the terrible LSU Tigers in the SEC Conference Tournament and #24 Texas A&M takes on Missouri in the Big 12 Conference Tournament. Keep reading for previews of all three games below.
March 10 – NCAAB Games
Marquette Golden Eagles (20-13) vs. #14 Louisville Cardinals
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
When: 9:25 pm EST
TV: ESPN
Fair NCAAB Odds: Marquette +2
Analysis: I’m interested to see what the basketball betting line ends up at in this game. Marquette was sensational on March 9 versus the West Virginia Mountaineers. They held WV to only 61 points in a 67 to 61 victory as 2 ½ point dogs. The Golden Eagles are full of JC transfer players. That should give them an edge in terms of experience because the Marquette kids had to play their way to the Big East. They weren’t recruited by teams like Louisville. The Cardinals beat Marquette by a single point, 71 to 70, the last time these two teams played on March 10. Marquette has been terrific in their last 2 games. I don’t see them losing to the Cardinals either against the spread or straight up in this contest.
Missouri Tigers (23-9) at #21 Texas A&M Aggies (23-7)
Where: Sprint Center, Kansas City, Missouri
When: 9:30 pm EST
Fair NCAAB Odds: Missouri +1 ½
Analysis: These two teams are almost carbon copies of each other. Because of that, my guess is that the college basketball odds against the spread in this contest will be a single point or point and a half either way. The Aggies beat the Tigers 91 to 89 in overtime on January 15. That was a long time ago. Texas A&M broke a 2 game losing streak, to Baylor and Kansas, with the 66 to 54 victory over Texas Tech on March 5. Missouri beat Texas Tech 88 to 84 on March 9. This is a very tough game to handicap because based on stats these two teams are very, very similar. I have to go with Missouri in this contest only because I believe that they can carry some of that juice that they gained from the victory over Texas Tech into this game.
LSU Tigers (11-20) vs. #24 Vanderbilt Commodores (21-9)
Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia
When: 10:00 pm EST
TV: ESPN3.com
NCAAB Odds: Vanderbilt -13
Analysis: Not sure why Vanderbilt is only a 13 point NCAA betting favorite against the spread in this game. The Commodores absolutely demolished the LSU Tigers the last time these two teams faced off against each other on the basketball court, 90 to 69, in late February. Vandy is simply the better team. It’s true that the Commodores have lost 3 out of their last 4 games, but the losses occurred to Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky. LSU doesn’t come close to being as good as those teams. The Commodores should roll in what is shaping up as the possible bet of the night on March 10.
