Bet On Sports – Will #25 West Virginia Be Caught Looking Ahead?

February 12, 2011

When people bet on sports they are often concerned with whether one team in a matchup might get caught looking ahead, and that is the case on Saturday, as the 25th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers play host to the Blue Demons of DePaul in Big East action that gets underway at 4 PM ET at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, WV. West Virginia will undoubtedly be a hefty favorite for those people who bet on sports in this conference matchup.

Here are the trends that apply to this game as we bet on sports:

  • DePaul has lost its last eleven games SU
  • DePaul has covered two of its last eight games
  • DePaul has played five of its last seven games OVER the total
  • West Virginia has played five of its last six games UNDER the total
  • West Virginia has won 20 of its last 24 home games SU
  • West Virginia has won each of the last five meetings SU

The Mountaineers have been a team that has had its ups and downs since being embarrassed by Marshall on January 19. West Virginia has lost to nationally-ranked teams like Louisville, Villanova and Pittsburgh, and they have not created huge margins against South Florida or Seton Hall, and so they are just 8-11 ATS to people who bet on sports.

DePaul is one of the bottom feeders in the Big East; that much can’t be denied after this team has lost 23 consecutive conference games. But while this edition of the Blue Demons doesn’t bring back any memories of Ray Meyer’s squads with Mark Aguirre, they have been very competitive on occasion. They’ve shown that they can take games deep into the second half, as they have lost by a combined seven points to Cincinnati and Louisville.

Bob Huggins has decided to play at a decidedly slower pace with his team, and that’s the kind of thing that will reduce possessions, which makes it more difficult to carry big numbers. Leading scorer Casey Mitchell has hit two of 13 shots since coming off suspension, Pitt beat them at Morgantown without Ashton Gibbs in the lineup, and WVU probably finds itself a little pumped up about Monday’s revenge game against Syracuse. In this bet on sports, we’re looking for DePaul to fit themselves inside the large impost.

JAY’S PLAY: WEST VIRGINIA BY 9
