Bet on Sports – Lots of Choices for Big East Tournament Winner

March 8, 2011

The Big East Tournament is this week and the online sportsbook isn’t short on options when it comes to wagering on the Tournament.

Besides betting on the individual games, hoops handicappers can throw some dollars onto the Big East Tournament futures. Sweet future book odds can be found on a number of participants to win this week’s Big East Tournament. Let’s get to some free picks right now!

Big East Tournament

Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York

When: March 8 – March 12

Best Bet A: Notre Dame Irish +200

I’m actually picking the Irish to win the Big East Tournament this week. Notre Dame has been the most consistent team in the Big East all season. Sure, they, like every team in the Big East can stub their toe once in a while like when they lost to West Virginia 58 to 72 on Feb. 19, but the Irish has beaten Pittsburgh, the number 1 seed in this tournament, Louisville, Villanova and Connecticut in 4 out of its last 10 games. The Irish goes into the tournament off of a terrific 70 to 67 road victory over the UConn Huskies as 3 point dogs. ND is the team to back with a college basketball odds future bet.

Best Bet B: Georgetown Hoyas +1200

The Hoyas have dropped their last 3 games on the moneyline and 4 out of their last 5 games overall. Two of the losses occurred to Cincinnati, 46 to 58 and 47 to 69, but before the losing streak, G’Town had won 8 straight games in the Big East. Yes, guard Chris Wright won’t be back until the March Madness starts and even then, nobody knows when he’ll be back during the Big Dance, but G’Town could get hot during the Big East tourney and the odds are definitely right. Why not take a shot? As long as a dude named Austin Freeman shoots hoops for the Hoyas, they’ll have a shot in every game in which they play.

Best Big Long Shot: Villanova Wildcats +3000

NCAA betting fans are getting 30 to 1 on a team that up until mid-February was hovering around the Top 10 to simply win their conference tournament. There’s no doubt that ‘Nova’s 5 game losing streak is bad, but coach Jay Wright is a master at getting his fellas ready for the Big Dance. ‘Nova won’t stand a chance if guard Corey Wright doesn’t suit up starting on Tuesday in the Wildcats’ contest versus South Florida, but, maybe, it’s worth taking a chance on this team at the odds considering that Wright is listed as questionable on the injury report.

Others to Consider

Pittsburgh Panthers +200 – - The number 1 seed in the Big East Tournament has beaten West Virginia, South Florida, and Villanova in 3 out of their last 4 games. Their lone loss occurred to Louisville on the road in overtime. The basketball betting odds are fair as well.

St. John’s Red Storm +650 – - Since the tournament is taking place at Madison Square Garden, obviously, the Red Storm is a player. After all, every game they play in the Big East tourney is essentially a home game for Steve Lavin’s bunch.

Syracuse Orange +300 – - The Orange has won 5 games in a row including thumping West Virginia, Villanova and Georgetown. Brandon Triche can flat out dominate when the Orange needs him to and the rest of the team is playing at an extremely high level.
