Bet On NFL – Struggling Cardinals Entertain Defending Super Bowl Champions
October 9, 2010
Those who bet on NFL betting have seen the Arizona Cardinals struggle in the first few weeks of the post-Kurt Warner era, trading away the man that was supposed to replace him, while limping to a 2-2 record in the NFC West.
Inconsistencies have been the key to the Cardinals’ early season struggles, and the two teams that they’ve beaten this year are not considered to be playoff contenders in the St. Louis Rams and the Oakland Raiders.
The Cardinals will get a team that is definitely expected to be a postseason contender this week, with the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in town.

New Orleans Saints @ Arizona Cardinals
Sunday October 10th – 4:05 PM ET
University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix, Arizona
Broadcast: FOX
NFL Betting Odds: Saints -7, Cardinals +7
Total: 44.5
The Saints have hit a bit of a speed bump over the past couple of weeks, losing to the Atlanta Falcons in overtime after missing a chance to win it with a Garrett Hartley missed kick, and then barely getting by the Carolina Panthers at home with a 16-14 win. The Saints will have to travel in consecutive weeks, taking on the Cardinals in the desert before taking their talents south to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bet On NFL: What The Saints Will Have To Do To Win
A missed field goal against the Falcons could have sent the Saints spiraling in to consecutive losses, but head coach Sean Payton pulled a tight group together in enough time to salvage a tough game against the Carolina Panthers. New Orleans is just fifth in passing yards this season, and quarterback Drew Brees will need to continue to find his rhythm.
The Saints will also need to tighten up on defense against the rush, against which they are ranked 26th in the league.
Bet On NFL: What The Cardinals Will Have To Do To Win
The Cardinals have opened the post-Warner era with struggles at the quarterback position, shipping away Matt Leinart and sticking with Derek Anderson. Anderson has thrown for 644 yards and three touchdowns, but has struggled with turnovers tossing five interceptions over his last three games. Running back Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells have averaged over five yards per carry, but have combined for just two touchdowns, leaving the bulk of the scores to Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston.
Arizona ranks in the bottom third of the league on defense both against the run and pass, which will need to be much better against the Saints to have a chance.
Bet On NFL: Outlook & Pick
Despite the Saints’ troubles in recent weeks, this is a proud team constantly trying to prove themselves as one of the best in the league, and that should continue this weekend. The Cardinals have been sloppy on offense this season, and turnovers will be all Brees and the boys need to put Arizona away this Sunday in the desert.
