Bet On NFL – Seattle Alive in NFC West

December 12, 2010

Those who bet on NFL betting action know that it is a real uphill battle for the San Francisco 49ers, while the Seattle Seahawks happen to be very much alive in the NFC West.

On Sunday these teams will meet up at Candlestick Park (natural turf) in San Francisco, in a game that can possibly give Seattle the lead in the division if they win. Kickoff is slated for 4:05 PM ET, and in the odds used to bet on NFL action for this game, the Niners are 5.5-point favorites, with the total on the game listed at 42 points.

Bet On NFL

Seattle Seahawks (6-6 SU & ATS) at San Francisco 49ers (4-8 SU, 5-7 ATS)

Live at Candlestick Park

San Francisco, CA

Sunday, December 12 — 4:05 PM ET

TV: FOX

Bet On NFL Odds:

San Francisco -5.5
Seattle +5.5

Total 42

Here are some of the trends as they impact our decision as we bet on NFL action:

· Seattle has covered two of its last six games
· Seattle has played its last five games OVER the total
· Seattle has lost 12 of its last 15 road games SU
· Seattle has covered three of its last 15 road games
· Seattle has played five of its last seven road games

· San Francisco has lost eight of its last 12 games SU
· San Francisco has covered two of its last six games
· San Francisco has played seven of its last ten home games UNDER the total
· San Francisco has won 12 of its last 17 home games SU

Seattle sent the Niners sliding in the season opener with a 31-6 win at Qwest Field, although neither team made much headway offensively, totaling just over 500 yards between them. Those who bet on NFL play collected with a home underdog in that game.

The Seahawks are a strong team most of the time at home, although you couldn’t tell form the 42-24 beating they took from Kansas City a couple of week ago. They bounced back by beating Carolina last Sunday, and they ran for 161 yards in that one, which was quite a departure from what they had been doing. Only two teams have rushed for fewer yards than Seattle – Arizona and Indianapolis.

These are some head-to-head NFL betting trends which we use when we bet on the NFL:

· Seattle has won eleven of the last 15 meetings SU
· Seattle has covered five of the last seven meetings
· Seattle has won five of the last seven meetings SU as the road team

The Niners have eight losses on the season, and while that doesn’t rule them completely out of things in the ultra-weak NFC West, they will have to win all their remaining games and hope that both the Rams and Seahawks stumble even beyond their head-to-head meetings.

If you bet on NFL games, you need to know this. Okay, it’s not impossible, but they are going to have to improve on last week’s effort, when they were beaten down 34-16 by Green Bay. And they have to do it without Frank Gore, who is out for the year, leaving Bryan Westbrook with the rushing burden.

The 49ers are going through yet another quarterback change, as Alex Smith takes the job back from Troy Smith. Alex has been less than adequate, with nine TD’s and nine interceptions, and he’s already wondering why he wasn’t the quarterback last week or the week before.

He just better be worried about throwing the ball straight. I’m not impressed with the decisiveness of Mike Singletary, who is playing musical chairs with the former #1 draft pick and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith.

I realize how bad Seattle can conceivably on the road, but I have no confidence in Alex Smith, and Matt Hasselbeck, even with an injured wrist, is still a better alternative. We’re willing to take the available points with the Seahawks as we bet on NFL action for Sunday.
