Bet on NFL – Niners Close Out Against Cardinals

January 2, 2011

Those people who bet on NFL games know that the San Francisco 49ers have been a big disappointment this year, and now they are going to close out their 2010 season minus the presence of Mike Singletary as they play host to the Arizona Cardinals. The game kicks off at 4:15 PM ET at Candlestick Park (natural turf) in San Francisco.

The Niners are a six-point favorite in the football betting line, with a total of 39 points posted, and those are the numbers we’ll use as we bet on NFL action on Sunday.

Here are some of the trends as we bet on NFL action here

• Arizona has played four of its last six games UNDER the total

• Arizona has lost eight of its last ten games SU

• Arizona has covered two of its last seven games

• Arizona has covered one of its last six road games

• San Francisco has lost four of its last six games SU

• San Francisco has covered two of its last seven games

• San Francisco has won four of its last five home games SU

I don’t think there are very many people who were sorry to see Mike Singletary. he came in trying to enforce a persona as a stern disciplinarian, but just because you walk around hollering a lot doesn’t make you Vince Lombardi. Oddly, Singletary was actually the calm one when Troy Smith erupted on the sideline last Sunday. Amused customers who bet on NFL action could see some of the Niner players trying calm Smith down, to no avail. I’m not sure things like that hurt Singletary, but they didn’t help. This won’t help Troy Smith either, especially since Singletary was the guy who gave him a chance to be the starter. Now the job is back in Alex Smith’s hands, and he will likely be showcasing himself to other NFL teams, because he is not signed beyond this season.

Here are the head-to-head football betting trends that have a bearing on how we bet on NFL games this Sunday:

• Four of the last five meetings have gone UNDER the total

• San Francisco has won five of the last seven meetings SU

• San Francisco has won eleven of the last 14 meetings SU as the home team

• Four of the last five meetings in San Francisco have gone UNDER the total

The interim coach is Jim Tomsula, and this is likely his one and only shot as Niner management will probably be looking for a coach who can make an impact. The word is that Jim Harbaugh of Stanford is a guy they would be very interested in talking to.

Meanwhile, Arizona is coming into this game on a high note, having made a dramatic comeback against Dallas to win 27-26 on national television last Saturday. It wasn’t all pretty, but this was one of those spots where the Cards came up with some big plays on defense and decided to put forth a big effort. Rookie John Skelton continues as quarterback, and those who bet on NFL sport betting games know there are negatives and positives to his presence. Skelton has completed only 45.5% of his passes, but he’s showing some spirit, can move in the pocket, take off and run, and he has a live arm. All he really lacks at this point in time is experience. And he may also lack Larry Fitzgerald, who suffered a concussion against Dallas.

No matter. The Cardinals are seeking a little revenge for that 27-6 beating they took a month ago, as they were out-rushed by a 261-13 margin. At that point they were a team with some hope, and now they are just waiting for it to end. There will be major changes for this franchise, and this uncertainty does not create enough urgency to lay six points, so we’re on the underdog as we bet on NFL action here.
