Bet on NFL – Giants vs Eagles

November 21, 2010

A game that everyone will be tuning in for is the New York Giants/Philadelphia Eagles game this Sunday night, and what better way to make it more interesting that making a Bet on NFL. The Eagles are coming off a complete and total destruction of the Washington Redskins, and it was all thanks to Michael Vick who single handily won them that football game. I’m going to try not to make this entire piece about him, but when you put up a performance like he did last week, it’s hard not to yammer on about him. I’m sure the Giants are sick of hearing about him, and get their chance to shut everyone up on Sunday night. They are coming off a home loss to the Dallas Cowboys, so between Vick and losing to their old rivals, Sunday night couldn’t come quick enough.

New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Lincoln Financial Field – Philadelphia, PA)
Sunday, November 14th – 8:25 PM ET
TV: NBC

The majority of those who have made a Bet on NFL already for this one are taking Vick and the Eagles to cover the 3 point spread. In fact, 81% of people are taking Philly at the moment, and it’s hard to argue against that considering both teams performances last week.  Not only did the Giants get smoked by the Cowboys 33-20, but they did it infront of their home fans. Everything went wrong for New York as their normally stingy defence was lit up for 427 yards, while Eli Manning tossed up a pair of picks in the loss.

Bet on NFL:
New York Giants +160
Philadelphia Eagles -3, -190
Total – 48

Redemption will be on the minds of the Giants, while the Eagles will just hope for more of the same. The problem for the Giants is that Vick’s performance wasn’t like it was a fluke, he’s been playing good football since the start of the year. Many people were questionable as to how he’d come back from the rib injury, and all he did was throw an 80-yard bomb down the middle for a touchdown. For New York to have any chance of slowing him and this offence down, they can’t give up those big plays, something they were susceptible to last week. And if Jon Kitna can burn you, Michael Vick will torch your fricking face off.

Here are some Bet on NFL trends for this one:

  • Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Philadelphia.
  • Over is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings in Philadelphia.
  • Road team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
  • Underdog is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
  • Giants are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 meetings.

The biggest factor I’m weighed my decision on when making a Bet on NFL, other than Vick, was how poorly the Giants have played against the more elite teams in the NFL. They got smoked by the Colts and the Titans, and although they picked it up for a while, showed some serious weaknesses in their loss to Dallas. Considering how well the Eagles are playing right now, and the Giants stinker last week, my Bet on the NFL is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bet on NFL: Philadelphia (-3)
