Philadelphia Eagles (-3.5) -115
Dallas Cowboys (+3.5) -105
Over/Under 50.5
The Cowboys (4-8) are now 3-1 under interim head coach Jason Garrett with their lone loss fumbled away to New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day. Dallas suffered a big blow in last week’s victory at Indianapolis when speed receiver and kick/punt returner Dez Bryant suffered a season ending fractured fibula injury.
This bet on NFL contest should still have plenty of big plays and scoring, as the Cowboys have averaged 33 points per game their last three contests and take on an Eagles team averaging 28 points per game this season to rank #2 in the NFL.
Philadelphia (8-4) remains tied with the NY Giants on top of the NFC East division. The Eagles offense is dynamic as they lead the NFC in rushing with 144 yards per game along with a NFL-best 5.2 yards per carry.
Running back LaSean McCoy and quarterback Michael Vick are the league’s most efficient runners, averaging 4.9 and 6.3 yards per rush respectively.
That success on the ground should open up the passing game in this bet on NFL rivalry, as the Eagles feature two of the fastest receivers in football with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Macklin averaging 14 and 20 yards per reception with McCoy’s 67 catches leading the team in receptions.
Dallas’ defense is still deficient, as it allows 362 yards per game and was torched in the passing game the past two weeks by Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. Now Michael Vick brings his NFC-best 8.4 yards per pass attempt to face the Cowboys and Vick is also the NFC’s top-rated passer.
Against one of the league’s premier defenses on the road, Vick and the Eagles offense piled up 398 yards at 5.7 yards per play while scoring 26 points at Chicago on November 28th.
Philadelphia’s defense has deficiencies though, and top cornerback Asante Samuel will likely miss his third straight bet on NFL game. Dallas quarterback Jon Kitna has flourished under coach Jason Garrett, and with Samuel not lining up in the secondary, the Eagles have allowed six touchdown passes and over 10 yards per reception the past two weeks.
The Eagles have also allowed 26 touchdowns in 33 trips by the opponent inside the 20 yard line which equates to the league’s worst red zone failure rate.
NFL Insider Tip: The ‘over’ is 7-1 in Philadelphia’s last eight games and 10-1 in Dallas’ L/11 games. Head Coach Andy Reid’s squad has surpassed the closing number four of the L/5 times it went off the board as road favorites, while the Cowboys have played in high scorers in each of their L/7 home games.
Despite a high posted total, this contest has plenty of match-ups that point to lots of yards and scoring in this bet on NFL Sunday night contest.
My NFL Predictions: Philadelphia/Dallas Over (50.5) -110
