Bet on NFL – Charger´s One of NFL´s Hottest Teams
December 5, 2010
As we bet on NFL games this Sunday, we take special note that the San Diego Chargers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL but still have not caught up in their own division. On Sunday they go after their fifth straight win as they play host to the Oakland Raiders in AFC West action that is set to get underway at 4:05 PM ET at Qualcomm Stadium (natural turf) in San Diego. In the pro football betting odds, the Chargers are hefty 12.5-point favorites, with the total on the game posted at 45 points. The game will be televised regionally by CBS.

San Diego has won four games in a row, and very few teams in the league have looked as good as they’ve looked recently. Phillip Rivers has connected for nearly nine yards an attempt, and he’s thrown for 23 TD’s and 3362 yards, which could eventually lead to him breaking Dan Marino’s record for most yards in a season. All of this is being done with a carousel of wide receivers that have been affected by injury, not to mention some of the hurts that have bothered tight end Antonio Gates, who had limited playing time against the Colts and will be available for at least that much against the Raiders.
Those who bet on the NFL know that Oakland was awful last Sunday. The Raiders had only eleven first downs in their home loss to the Dolphins and got only 16 yards out of the running game. Here is a team that scored back-to-back wins over Denver and Seattle by a combined 92-17, then made a nice comeback against Kansas City. But in their last two, they have been outgained by an absurd margin. In fact, they have been doubled up (902-445).
Here are some of the head-to-head betting trends as we bet on NFL action:
- Four of the last six meetings have gone OVER the total
- San Diego has won 13 of the last 14 meetings SU
- San Diego has won the last seven meetings SU as the home team
- San Diego has covered five of the last seven meetings as the home team
- Eight of the last ten meetings in San Diego have gone OVER the total
Perhaps a review of what happened last time these teams met is in order as we prepare to bet on NFL action. Oakland emerged with a 35-27 win, but the Chargers were the big winners on the stat sheet, with a 506-279 edge in yardage and 29 first downs. That kind of thing has been happening a lot for the Chargers, who are #1 in the NFL in offense and defense, but special teams and turnovers have not been their friend. When they don’t have those kinds of flubs, they can be a dominant side. Can they do it here? The Raiders have made only six interceptions and they convert just 32% of their third down opportunities. Believe me, it’s possible. And San Diego had won 13 straight meetings with Oakland prior to that defeat. Now it’s Jason Campbell’s QB job to lose, after Bruce Gradkowski has been ruled out with an injury. We know that Oakland has the capability to go to the ground and shorten this game, but that has not worked a lot lately. Jacoby Ford poses a downfield threat that wasn’t there the last time these teams met. It’s a big number, but we are looking to the total here as we bet on NFL games this weekend. Go "over."
