Bet On NBA – Orlando, Milwaukee, Dallas Capable of Covering in Early Games
December 28, 2010
The Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Mavericks appear capable of covering the spread in the NBA sportsbook in early NBA action on Monday, Dec. 27th.
The Orlando Magic take on the New Jersey Nets on the road, Milwaukee battles Atlanta at home and Dallas travels to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder on the road. All appear more than capable of covering versus the spread on Monday night.

Dec. 27th – NBA Games
Orlando Magic (18-12) at New Jersey Nets (9-21)
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
When: 7:00 pm EST
Basketball Betting Odds: Orlando -6
Analysis: The Magic has figured out how to incorporate their new players: Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson. After losing 3 games in a row to Philly, Atlanta and Dallas as favorites in the online sportsbook, the Magic have since beaten the two best teams in the NBA based on record, the San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics.
Orlando beat the Spurs through their offense outscoring S.A. 123 to 101. Then, they took down Boston with awesome defense, beating the Men in Green 86 to 78. The Nets, who average only 92.9 points per game, should have no shot versus such a versatile Magic team on Monday night.
Atlanta Hawks (19-13) at Milwaukee Bucks (12-16)
Where: Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
When: 8:00 pm EST
Basketball Betting Odds: Milwaukee -2 ½
Analysis: The Hawks are favored by 55% of basketball betting fans to cover the spread in this game tonight. I’m part of the 45% backing the Bucks. Milwaukee isn’t a better team than Atlanta and is only 4-7-2 against the spread at home, but the Bucks are riding a two game winning streak both straight up and ATS, 98 to 79 over the Lakers and 84 to 79 over Sacramento.
The Hawks simply haven’t been as good against the spread on the road as they have been at home lately. Atlanta is 0 and 5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Hawks have failed on the road against a few teams they should have dominated like when losing by 23 points, 80 to 103 to Detroit as -4 point favorites or 82 to 89 to New Jersey as -3 ½ point faves.
I’ve got to go with the home team that’s hot, Milwaukee, over the team in the midst of a road woes streak, Atlanta, in this matchup.
Dallas Mavericks (23-5) at Oklahoma City Thunder (21-10)
Where: Ford Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
When: 8:00 pm EST
Basketball Betting Odds: Dallas +2 ½
Analysis: I believe that it’s time to regard the Dallas Mavericks as one of the best teams in the NBA both straight up and sports betting wise. The Mavs have been fantastic in 2010 when racking up a 23 and 5 straight up record, including beating the Miami Heat straight up on the road to end the Heat’s 12 game winning streak, and going17-9-2 ATS overall the season.
The key with Dallas is betting on them in road games. The Mavs are 10 and 1 against the spread on the road and although it’s very possible that Dallas could lose straight up to the Thunder on the road on Dec. 27th, and maybe even ATS, I can’t get myself to back Durant, Westbrook and Oklahoma City in this matchup.
Dallas is just too good of a team and play to good in their opponent’s building to go against when they’re receiving points. Mavs to cover the spread again, is what I say.
