Jan. 4th – NBA Games

Oklahoma City Thunder (23-12) at Memphis Grizzlies (15-19)

Where: FedEx Forum, Memphis, Tennessee

When: 8:00 pm EST

NBA Odds: Oklahoma City -2

Analysis: It’s hard for me to envision the Grizzlies producing a game like the one they did against the Lakers on Jan. 2nd. Memphis destroyed the NBA odds in the sportsbook by flat out dominating L.A. 104 to 85. The Grizzlies figure to “bounce” in this game meaning that they’re not coming close to the 30 assists to 9 turnovers ratio that they came up with versus the lollygagging Lakers. The Thunder lost 74 to 101 to San Antonio in their last, an incredibly awful performance by any stretch, but they figure to bounce the other way by producing a terrific performance against the Grizzlies on Tuesday night. Kevin Durant only had 16 points versus San Antonio in Oklahoma City’s last. He should definitely hit his 27.9 average versus Memphis and might get close to 40. I like OKC to cover the spread in this game.

Portland Trailblazers (18-16) at Dallas Mavericks (25-8)

Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

When: 8:30pm EST

NBA Betting Odds: Portland +4 ½

Analysis: The ‘Blazers have only a 7-10-2 ATS record in the online sports betting book on the road this season and will be without guard Brandon Roy in this game. I sill like them at +4 ½ vs. Dallas because the Mavericks will definitely go without Caron Butler and might go without Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk is questionable vs. Portland. If he’s out, then forget it. The ‘Blazers should probably win this game straight up. The trends point to a Portland victory ATS as it is. The ‘Blazers are 4 and 1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two. The Mavericks are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 day of rest. Dallas is also 7-10-2 ATS at home and 1 and 3 ATS in their last 4 games. If Dirk plays, then Portland might have a tough time keeping this close, but I still think they pull it out in the end.

Detroit Pistons (11-23) at Los Angeles Lakers (23-11)

Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

When: 10:30 pm EST

NBA Odds: Detroit +12

Analysis: The Lakers are too off and on in order for me to lay 12-points in the sports betting book on them to cover versus Detroit on Tuesday night. L.A. is just an up and down team and now coach Phil Jackson is calling his star player out because of an 85 to 104 loss to Memphis. The Lakers are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games and 5 and 11 ATS overall at home. They’re just not a good team to back in the sportsbook in any occasion much less one against the Detroit Pistons who, although only 2 and 4 straight up in their last 6, are 6 and 1 ATS in their last 7 games. Detroit lost by 13 points to L.A. in the last game, 90 to 103, but that L.A. team was much different than this Laker team. I prefer to go with the team showing positive results ATS than a team that doesn’t know which way is up.
