Bet on NBA – Memphis vs. Denver and Lakers in Tough vs. Hawks
February 22, 2011
The Memphis Grizzlies figure to put a beat down on the possible ‘Melo-less Denver Nuggets as road favorites in the NBA sportsbook on Tuesday, February 22nd.
Memphis versus Denver figures to garner the most attention should the Nuggets unload Carmelo Anthony, but two other games figure to offer hoops handicappers plenty of opportunity for profit.
Boston travels to Oakland to take on Nickname-Nickname, that’s the Golden State (nickname!) Warriors (nickname!) while the Atlanta Hawks hope to continue the Lakers’ woes.

Feb. 22nd– NBA Games
Memphis Grizzlies (31-26) at Denver Nuggets (32-25)
Where: Pepsi Center, Denver, Colorado
When: 9:00 pm EST
Fair NBA Odds: Memphis -3 ½
Analysis: Even with ‘Melo, I’d probably favor the Grizzlies against the NBA spread in this contest. Memphis is 15 and 3 ATS in their last 18 games versus a team with a winning straight up record. They’re 5 and 2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and 6 and 2 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up victory. Denver is 0 and 4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up victory and 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 versus the Western Conference. Another thing to consider is that any deal involving ‘Melo will almost assuredly involve Denver point-guard Chauncey Billups.
Boston Celtics (40-14) at Golden State Warriors (26-29)
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland, California
When: 10:30pm EST
NBA Odds: Boston -4 ½
Analysis: The Celtics figure to take charge early in this contest and to never look back. Boston is 4 and 1 ATS in the online sportsbook in their last 5 games playing on 3 days or more of rest. That’s really the most important trend when it comes to this game. Golden State is 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games versus a team with a winning straight up record. Nickname-Nickname is also 4 and 1 ATS in their last 5 games versus a team with a winning road record. GS gets the overall trends, but Boston gets the best trend. When the old guys play rested, they’re awfully tough to bet against the spread!
Atlanta Hawks (34-21) at Los Angeles Lakers (38-19)
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
When: 10:30 pm EST
NBA Odds: Atlanta +7
Analysis: The Atlanta Hawks, who are 2 and 4 against the NBA odds in their last 6 games, might be the one team that the Lake Show could cover a spread against. No…wait. My apologies. I used that same exact line when the Lakers lost 89 to 109 to Charlotte on Feb. 14th. Then, I used the line again when the heart-less except for Kobe, Fish and Shannon Brown Lakers lost to Cleveland 99 to 104 straight up. Can’t really use that line again, can I? What does that mean? It means that I’m, well, stuck with backing the Hawks. Hey, it could be worse. L.A. is 10 and 17 ATS at home this season. I’ll ride the Hawks to a cover in the sportsbook on Feb. 19th.
