Bet on NBA – Memphis, Houston, Detroit Teams to Back ATS on Jan. 10th

January 11, 2011

The Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons are the teams to back in the NBA sportsbook on Monday, January 10th.

Memphis is the only favorite out of the three as the Rockets, no doubt, will be big dogs versus the Boston Celtics on Monday night while Detroit is a double-digit underdog versus the Chicago Bulls. Why are the Grizzlies favored in their game? They take on lowly Charlotte on the road on January 10th.

Jan. 10th – NBA Games – Late

Memphis Grizzlies (17-20) at Charlotte Bobcats (13-21)

Where: Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, North Carolina

When: 7:00 pm EST

NBA Betting Odds: Memphis -2 ½

Analysis: Charlotte just doesn’t have enough scorers on their team to hang with a Memphis squad that has gone 4 and 1 ATS in the online sportsbook in their last 5 games. The Grizzlies are coming off of a 100 to 109 loss to Oklahoma City as +6 ½ point dogs, however.

But that game was in Oklahoma City and Charlotte doesn’t have a single dude on their roster named Russell Westbrook or Kevin Durant. I see the Grizzlies jumping out to a big lead like they did the last time they played Charlotte. Memphis won that game 113 to 80.

The Grizzlies are 7 and 1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up loss while the Bobcats are 1 and 6 ATS in their last 7 games following an against the spread victory.

Houston Rockets (16-21) at Boston Celtics (28-2)

Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts

When: 7:30 pm EST

Fair NBA Betting Odds: Houston +9 ½

Analysis: Expect close to double-digit NBA odds in the sportsbook when these two teams finally tip off on Monday night. The Rockets are 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 games including failing versus the spread against Portland, Orlando and Utah in their last 3 games.

Boston, however, is 7-10-1 ATS at home this season. They’ve gone 1 and 3 against the spread in their last 4 games. The trends don’t favor either team in this game meaning that if the odds end up at Houston +9 ½, I believe that they’re the team to back.

The Rockets can keep this contest close with Kevin Martin’s outside shooting and Luis Scola and Shane Battier’s inside game. Kevin Garnett should be unavailable to the Celtics once again on Monday night.

Detroit Pistons (12-24) at Chicago Bulls (24-12)

Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois

When: 8:00 pm EST

NBA Betting Odds: Detroit +10

Analysis: Not many trends favor the Detroit Pistons on the NBA betting lines in this game. Detroit is 0-6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Chicago and 7-18-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings overall. But the Bulls are only 2 and 4 ATS in their last 6 games overall and barely beat Detroit, 95 to 92, in overtime the last time the two teams met on Dec. 26th.

Chicago is the better team but the Pistons have gone 7 and 3 ATS in their last 10 games including covering a spread versus Philadelphia in a 112 to 109 victory as -1 ½ point favorites in their last. Detroit should be able to keep the game close with their veteran line up. 10 points are just too many points to give up. I have to back Detroit in this game.
