December 29, 2010

The New York Knicks take on the Miami Heat and the L.A. Lakers take on the San Antonio Spurs as underdogs in the NBA sportsbook on Tuesday night. The Heat is expected to beat the Heat by close to 9 points while the Spurs are giving up close to 4 points to the Lakers.

Also playing on Tuesday night are the Chicago Bulls who host the Milwaukee Bucks as favorites in the sportsbook.

Dec. 28th – NBA Games

New York Knicks (18-12) at Miami Heat (23-9)

Where: Americana Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida

When: 7:30 pm EST

Basketball Odds: Miami -8 ½

Analysis: 60% of NBA odds handicappers are backing the Knicks in this contest. Hey, 8 ½ points is a lot and the Heat hasn’t stepped onto the hardwood since beating the L.A. Lakers straight up as dogs on Christmas Day. But Miami is a much, much better defensive team than New York. Miami is ranked #1 in points allowed per game, 90.8, field goal percentage allowed, 42.4%, 3-point percentage allowed, 31.1%, and, strangely, free throw percentage allowed, 72.2%. New York doesn’t really play defense, allowing 106.6 points and 47% from the field per game, and the Heat destroyed New York 113 to 91 the last time the two teams met. That game was earlier this month. So, I don’t expect much to change on Tuesday night.

Milwaukee Bucks (12-17) at Chicago Bulls (19-10)

Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois

When: 8:00 pm EST

Basketball Odds: Chicago -8 ½

Analysis: Chicago finally returns home after a 3 game road trip where they went 1 and 2 ATS in the NBA sportsbook. Chicago isn’t that much better than the Bucks, at least they usually don’t play like they’re that much better, but Milwaukee lost to Atlanta on Monday night, 95 to 80, and might not have their legs underneath them in order to take on a Chicago team raring to go. Also, without Brandon Jennings, do the Bucks really have a chance to keep up with Bulls’ guard Derrick Rose who averages over 24 points per game? I don’t think so.

L.A. Lakers (21-9) at San Antonio Spurs (26-4)

Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas

When: 8:30 pm EST

Basketball Odds: San Antonio -3 ½

Analysis: L.A. can say all they want about how the Christmas Day loss to the Miami Heat, as 3 ½ point NBA betting odds faves, doesn’t “mean anything”. Right. Miami embarrassed L.A. when beating them by 16 points on JC’s Birthday. That’s ridiculous. L.A. is a good team but they’re not nearly as formidable as some believe. The Lakers have lost 2 in a row both straight up and against the spread and failed to hit the century mark on offense in 3 out of their last 4 games. They actually scored only 79 points in a 79 to 98 loss to Milwaukee 2 games back. San Antonio is 17-12-1 against the spread overall and should have no trouble covering the spread in this game. They’re just playing better than L.A. right now and are too deep for the Lakers.
