Bet on NBA Finals – Banking On The NBA Playoff Series Prices

June 9, 2010

I bet you thought you could only bet on the NBA playoffs series prices before the series started, didn’t you? Well let me shine some light on the darkness clouding your betting options. The NBA futures are consistently updating, and with the Boston Celtics dropping in to a 1-2 SU hole against the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA series prices have been adjusted. Is there any value here?

The Boston Celtics are being given long odds to bounce back in this series, and if you’re a Celtics betting faithful, now is the time to buy in. At +280, there’s a serious return on even a small investment for the Celtics to win the NBA Finals.

Game 3 of the series was anything but pretty. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to call it anything but ugly. Of course, the only other word you could use is “revealing”.

Ray Allen was uncharacteristically frigid on Tuesday night missing all of his 21 shots from the floor (0-13 from field goal range, 0-8 from distance) ending the night with a measly two points. Rajon Rondo, the guy who needs to step up if Allen is off only had 11-points and Paul Pierce was average at just 15-points.

The big hero of Game 3 was Kevin Garnett, who went 11-for-16 from the field and ended a wasted effort with 25-points. The truth about the Celtics is very simple. If they can’t get at least one of their backcourt guards to rev the scoring engine, then they’re in deep trouble.

The Lakers had an off night too. Kobe Bryant continued to shoot poorly and still ended the night with 29-points because he kept being sent to the line and took a truck load of shots. The leader of the Lakers went just 10-for-29 from the field, taking just seven fewer shots from the field than the rest of the starting lineup.

Even with a strong 2-1 SU series lead, and home court advantage restored, the Lakers are -380 favorites to win the NBA championship in basketball futures betting. The trick here is nailing this price down at a good value. Should the Lakers go up 3-1 SU after Game 4, the price will sky rocket and lose all of its value. However, if the Celtics tie the series, you may see the line normalize on both sides.

Boston isn’t dead in the water just yet. They may be much older, but they were also flat lined as Allen and Rondo were ineffective from the floor. Rondo is especially vulnerable to cold streaks, but Ray Allen knows that the weight is on his shoulders. How he responds in Game 4 will be very telling of how competitive Boston will be throughout the rest of the series.

If you are truly a die hard that believes Boston can overcome a 2-1 SU deficit, then buy this NBA playoff series price right now. It’s perhaps the best time to buy either team, actually, especially if the Lakers find the fire power to push the Celtics further into the foxhole.

We will know much more about this series when Game 4 tips off on Thursday night at 9:00pm, with Boston fighting the Lakers and a home line of -3.5 at the TD Garden. This is the best time to get in on the Celtics at a great payout value, and it may be a perfect time to cash in on some possibly guaranteed cash should the Lakers triumph on Thursday.
