NASCAR: Jeff Byrd 500
Where: Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, Connecticut
When: March 20, 2011 at 1:00 pm EST
Track: .533 miles, Oval
TV: FOX
Best Bet A: Jeff Gordon +1000
Gordo didn’t exactly have the best time at Bristol in 2010. Jeff finished fourteenth and then eleventh. It wasn’t exactly a great year for Gordo overall, anyhow. To me, that’s a positive because Jeff already has a victory this season, at Phoenix on Feb. 27. Another reason to like Gordo is because his NASCAR odds are at double-digits to win the Jeff Byrd 500 on Sunday. Great odds, success already this year, and a history of 5 victories and 14 total Top 5 finishes over the track makes Gordo a seriously attractive wager to win the Jeff Byrd 500 on Sunday.
Best Bet B: Carl Edwards +500
Roush-Fenway is really looking to take home the Sprint Cup this year. They can do it with Carl Edwards who goes into the Jeff Byrd 500 after having won the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. CE is obviously a talented guy and 2 Top 5 finishes, a victory, and an average finish of 10.3 so far this year should give NASCAR betting fans confidence. Edwards has shown in the past that when he gets hot, he can stay hot. Don’t worry so much about the low odds.
Best Long Shot Bet: Juan Pablo Montoya +2500
My favorite underdog driver gets the nod from me again to win a race because I’m gaga over his online odds. JPM doesn’t have great history at Bristol, only 2 Top 10 finishes and an average finish of 18.8, but he’s been very impressive so far in 2011 with a Top 5 finish, 2 Top 10 finishes overall, and an average finish of 9.3. Maybe, this is the year that the real Juan Pablo Montoya comes to play with the drivers on the Sprint Cup Circuit. Bettors should try to hit Juan Pablo before he starts going off at odds less than +2000. One victory would cause that to happen.
Others To Consider
Jimmie Johnson +700 – - The Champ’s average finish so far in 2011 has been a 15.3. Is it only a matter of time before JJ gets it going? Or is his reign over? Maybe, the King’s reign is over. +700 NASCAR betting odds on JJ are tempting, though, aren’t they?
Denny Hamlin +700 – - Denny hasn’t exactly stepped it up yet in 2011 but it’s doubtful that he stays down for too long and the NASCAR season has practically just begun.
Kyle Busch +300 – - Denny’s teammate has been as good at Bristol as any driver on the Sprint Cup Circuit. Kyle’s logged 4 victories and 9 total Top 10 finishes over the Connecticut track. The odds make him an underlay to win the Jeff Byrd 500, however.
Tony Stewart +800 – - Smoke might be back. So far in 2011 he has 1 Top 5 finish and 2 total Top 10 finishes for an average finish of 7.3.
