July 3, 2010
It’ll be an NL Central showdown Saturday night in St. Louis. That’s when the Cardinals and their ace Chris Carpenter, host the Milwaukee Brewers in some exciting baseball betting action!
Milwaukee Brewers (36-43 SU, 38-41 R/L, 41-33-5 O/U) at St. Louis Cardinals (43-36 SU, 31-48 R/L, 29-48-2 O/U)
Saturday, July 3: 6:35 p.m.
MLB Betting Odds:
Milwaukee:
(Manny Parra-R)
St. Louis:
Chris Carpenter-R)
Carpenter enters this game as one of the elite pitchers in all of the National League, and is looking to improve on an already excellent start to his season.
So far, the 35-year-old right hander is 9-1 with an excellent 2.70 ERA in 17 outs, with his 100 strikeouts ranking him 15th in Major League Baseball as well. Carpenter has pitched well of late as well, as he’s won his last four decisions, and allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his last seven starts.
Carpenter will be going up against one of the elite lineups in baseball during Saturday’s betting odds however. The Brewers head into the weekend ranked sixth in baseball, averaging 4.85 runs per game and third in home runs with 99. Surprisingly the man leading the charge isn’t superstar Ryan Braun or even Prince Fielder, but outfielder Corey Hart. After having an abysmal 2009 campaign that saw him hit just 12 home runs Hart is back, as he’s already belted a team high 18 bombs and driven in 61 runs.
Not to be outdone, the Cardinals have plenty of big bats in their lineup as well, including maybe the best pure hitter in the game, Albert Pujols. We all know about the 2009 MVP’s capabilities, but really they bear repeating. He leads this team with a .309 batting average, 19 home runs and 58 RBI all while being pitched around by the opposition. Matt Holliday is finally providing the protection in the lineup that was expected when the Cardinals signed him to a long term contract this winter, as he now has 11 home runs to go with a .302 batting average.
Because of that talented lineup, and Carpenter on the mound, expect the Cardinals to not only win straight up, but to be a run line winner as well. Make them your Saturday baseball bet.
As good as the Brewers offense has been, they’ll be saddled with a disappointing pitcher in Manny Parra on Saturday, who has struggled all season. Parra’s stats aren’t actually as bad as they look on paper, as he’s 2-5, but has a respectable 4.12 ERA. Still with Pujols, Holliday and others like Colby Rasmus in this St. Louis lineup, they should be able to tee off on Parra, and force the Brewers into their bullpen.
Meanwhile, look for another strong outing from Carpenter. He routinely pitches late into his starts (7+ innings in five of his last six starts), and should have another outing Saturday night.
Take Carpenter and the Cardinals, in your Saturday baseball bet.
