Bet on Horse Racing – Monmouth Park Offers 12 Race Card
June 25, 2010
Racing returns to the Jersey Shore on Friday, with Monmouth Park offering up an outstanding 12 race card.
There are plenty of large fields and wide open races among the dozen races carded, and our Late Pick 3 play appears as if we can snag a nice payoff with our $24 investment.
The three race sequence starts with a third level optional claimer on the grass that drew a field of eight runners along with four main track only entrants.
The New York bred Gimme Credit exits stakes company, is making his second start off the claim by the Chad Brown barn, and appears to be the one to beat.
It looks as if we can beat the two likely favorites in the middle leg of the three race sequence, and we will go four deep seeking the winner.
The nightcap is a $10,000 maiden claimer that drew a full field of 12 along with a couple of also eligibles.
We go just two deep in the final race, using the likely favorite Gentleman Jeter along with longshot Putmeupfront, who was outrun in his first start off the layoff and is dropping into a softer spot.
Grassy is the likely favorite in today’s play of the day at Belmont Park, but longshot Stevil, who is stepping into a tougher spot may end up in the mix at a generous price.
Today’s Play of the Day from Belmont Park:
BEL Race 7 OClm $50,000N2X (4:12 ET)
#4 Grassy 2/1
#2 Stevil 10/1
#1 Rescue Squad 5/2
#5 Zifzaf 7/2
Analysis: #4 Grassy was not a threat when shipped to Pimlico for the Dixie (G2), checking in a well beaten tenth. Two back this guy made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot at this condition. He makes his third start of his current form cycle and drops back into the allowance ranks. The well bred colt looks as if he will be tough to beat in this spot.
#2 Stevil was a smart looking winner last out for a $25K tag and steps into a tougher spot here. Barbara claimed this gelding from Zito for $35K and has won three races with him. He looked like he has something left in the tank last out and can handle the class hike.
Wagering
WIN: #4 to win at 9/5 or better.
EX: 2,4 / 1,2,4,5
TRI: 2,4 / 1,2,4,5 / 1,2,4,5,7
Today’s Pick 3 Play from Monmouth Park:
Starting in Race 10: $1: 2,4,6 / 1,2,5,6 / 5,8 = $24
MTH Race 10 OClm $62,000N3X (5:23 ET)
#4 Gimme Credit, #6 Ever a Friend, #2 Bad Action
#4 Gimme Credit was claimed two back for $50K by the Brown barn, who gave him a two month break and then returned him to finish a decent fourth in the NY bred Kingston where the gelding did not have the best of trips. This guy has not seen the inside of the winners circle since taking a stake back in ’07, but this barn does good work with recent claims and with turf runners and we should catch a fair price.
#6 Ever a Friend finished evenly for third last out as the beaten chalk against $80K optional claimers in his local debut after shipping in from the left coast. The winner of the race was Get Serious, who came back to win the Monmouth (G3) in his next start on June 12. SoCal shippers have not fared well so far at the meeting, but perhaps with a local start under his belt he can move forward off his last effort.
MTH Race 11 Clm $10,000B (5:50 ET)
#1 R J’s Prospect, #2 Destinedtobemine, #5 Ave. of the Pines, #6 Ruling Decision
#1 R J’s Prospect drops in price after crossing the wire third and placed fourth via DQ for a $16K tag. He came inward at about the 1/8 pole interfering with a rival. Elvis sticks for Zito who is sending out live runners at the meeting.
#2 Destinedtobemine took ten tries to break his maiden, then was a good second in his first go against winners. Last out he set the early fractions and faded to finish fifth. That came against $20K non winners of two and he drops into a softer spot here.
MTH Race 12 Md $10,000 (6:17 ET)
#8 Putmeupfront, #5 Gentleman Jeter
#8 Putmeupfront was not a threat in a sixth place finish last out in his first go off a eight month layoff. This gelding was in the mix last fall versus maiden special weight company with a second, a third, and a couple of fourth place finishes. He takes another class drop down to $10K and may show more second off the bench. Worth a look at a decent price here.
#5 Gentleman Jeter set the early fractions, opened up a clear lead heading for home and was caught late, missing in a photo. The colt was nearly nine lengths clear of the rest of the field. He will be tough here in his second start off the bench.
Price Plays From Belmont Park:
These are price plays to watch today. A small win-place wager is in order or if your pockets are deep enough, use these runners in your trifecta and Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagers. One or two of these could be the difference between a regular day at the track and hitting the IRS window with a signer.
R2: #4 Dantes Character 10/1
R3: #3 On Demand 8/1
R6: #6 Sydney Road 8/1
R7: #2 Stevil 10/1
R9: #10 Uncle Pat 10/1
R9: #9 Ready for Ryan 12/1
Good luck padding your bankroll today!
