Bet on Golf – Who Will Miss the Cut in The Players Championship?

May 5, 2010

One of the most prestigious PGA Tour Events of the year takes place this week when the best in the world duke it out for the TPC Trophy.

Held at TPC Sawgrass, the winner of The Players Championship often times jumps to the top of the money leaders’ list.  Will that person be Tiger Woods who is coming off of a missed cut in last week’s Quail Hollow?

Or, is Tiger a good bet to miss the cut again?

PGA Tour:  The Players Championship To Miss the Cut

**Golf odds listed are current as of this writing

Best Bet:  Y.E. Yang +180

The odds on Yang to miss the cut are pretty good considering that he won the USPGA Championship in 2009.  Yang is coming off of a stellar 8th place finish in the Masters Tournament, but don’t let that fool you.  The man hasn’t been all that great in 2010.  He missed the cut at the Honda Classic, a tournament he won in 2009 and finished 30th at the WGC-CA and 31st at the Shell Houston Open.  He also missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass last year.

Best Bet B:  Padraig Harrington +220

I’m a huge Paddy guy but let’s be honest, he can sometimes play like he’s been hitting that bottle of Bushmills a bit too often.  Paddy missed the cut at the Masters but did finish 7th at the Quail Hollow Championship.  Some might see the glass half full.  I see it half empty meaning that Paddy goes back to his ridiculous ways and gets himself into major trouble on Thursday and Friday at TPC Sawgrass.

Best Bet C:  Angel Cabrera +160

He finished at -3 and tied for 14th in the 2009 The Players Championship but that was last year and he was coming off of a victory at the Masters.  This year, Cabrera hasn’t missed a cut but looking at his finishes, he’s due.  He finished 73rd at the Shell Houston Open, 61st at the Northern Trust Open and 50th at the WGC-CA.  That missed cut is just around the corner.

Others to Consider

Justin Rose +140 – - Made the cut at TPC Sawgrass in 2009 but Missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer and is coming off of a 40th place finish at the Zurich Classic.

Mike Weir +140 – - Did well in 2009 but hasn’t finished 40th or better in 4 straight tournaments.

Sergio Garcia +150 – - Another guy who did well in 2009 but has been awful in 2010 with a 45th at the Msters, a missed cut at the Verizon Heritage and a 70th at the Zurich Classic.
