Bet on Golf – What Team will Win the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament?

April 21, 2010

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournaments tees off this Friday.  The tournament, for a purse of $2.7 million, pits golf legends against each other in a team type tournament.

Teams play 54 holes in the team competition in order to win part of the purse.  The team that’s favored to win the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament this weekend is none other than Fred Couples, who had a terrific Masters Tournament two weeks ago, and Jay Haas.

At the golf odds, Couples/Haas isn’t the only great bet in the field. Read on to find out what other teams looks tough.

Tee-off:  4/23/2010

Champions Tour:  Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament

** Odds listed in golf sportsbook

Where:  Savannah Harbor Golf Resort, Savannah, Georgia

When:  1st round, April 23rd, 2010

Best Bet:  Allen/Pavin +400

Michael Allen’s been playing on the PGA Tour and he hasn’t been doing all that badly racking up a Top 10 finish in the Farmers Insurance Open and finishing 32nd in the Verizon Heritage last week.  This week, he should be ultra-tough.  Corey Pavin is a well-known golfer whose last finish was a very good 28th on the PGA Tour in the Transitions Championship.  Because they both have PGA Tour experience, Pavin and Allen could take home the Legends of Golf trophy at square odds.

Best Bet B:  Couples/Haas +300

Couples is still a danger in every tournament he plays.  He finished 6th in the Masters a couple of weeks ago and deserves to be the favorite to win the Legends of Golf along with his partner Jay Haas.  Haas has been playing exclusively on the Champions Tour but that shouldn’t talk bettors off of this team.  Haas has a Top 10 finish and 4 Top 25 finishes out of 5 tournament starts this year.  Like Allen and Pavin, this is going to be one tough team for the others to deal with this weekend.

Best Double-Digit Bet:  North/Watson +1000

North hasn’t played that often in 2010 recording a 13th place finish in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship and a 58th place finish in the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am but every golf bettor knows who Tom Watson is and Watson hasn’t disappointed in 2010 winning the Wendy’s Championship Skin’s Game and the Mitsubishi Electric.  He’s finished 5th in the Toshiba Classic and 8th in the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in the other 2 tournaments in which he’s played on the Champions Tour.  This is a solid team with a huge chance to win the Legends of Golf.

Best Long Shot Bet:  Kite/Morgan +2500

Morgan hasn’t been stellar in 2010 with his best finish being a 25th in the Outback Steakhouse, but Kite could help him elevate his game and the golf odds are just awesome on this team.  Tom Kite finished 11th in the Ace Group Classic in February and just recently finished 4th in the Outback Steakhouse.  He, like Watson, Pavin and Couples, is a well-known golfer that still has the skills to compete on the PGA Tour under certain circumstances.  This pair is worth a flyer at the big odds to win the Legends of Golf.
