September 11, 2010

The Fighting Irish welcome Michigan to Notre Dame this weekend for their week two clash, and after a couple of opening day wins both teams are playing with confidence. Wolverines’ quarterback Denard Robinson was unstoppable in the school’s opening win, and will present first-year head coach Brian Kelly with his first major game planning task in Notre Dame. Here’s a preview for those who bet on football.

Bet On Football : What Michigan Will Have To Do To Win

The Wolverines got off to a solid start to their season with a big win over Connecticut, with quarterback Denard Robinson absolutely torching the Huskies for nearly 400 combined yards throwing and rushing. The sophomore was unstoppable in pacing Michigan to a win while setting several school records, including setting the record most rushing yards in a single game with 185. The sixth FBS player to rush and throw for 185 in the same game, Robinson proved to be the force that he had been hyped up to be. Connecticut was one of the teams considered to be a legitimate contender in the Big East, and that should give the Wolverines added confidence moving forward in the Big Ten. With a couple of home games against Massachusetts and Bowling Green next on the schedule for Michigan, a win over Notre Dame could key an impressive run.

Bet On Football : What Notre Dame Will Have To Do To Win

Head coach Brian Kelly enjoyed a successful debut with Notre Dame, beating Purdue 23-12 in front of a packed house at Notre Dame Stadium. The fourth straight coach to win his debut with the Fighting Irish, Kelly’s defensive units were solid in comparison the struggling sides that handicapped the team the past couple of seasons, doing just enough to seal the victory. The statistics between the two sides were actually very similar as Notre Dame managed just 36 more yards than Purdue, with both sides rumbling for 20 first downs. The Fighting Irish will have to be even better than that against the Spartans, and a lot of the onus will fall on the shoulders of quarterback Dayne Crist. Crist threw for 205 yards and a touchdown in the opening day win, pacing the offense to victory in his first start.

Bet On Football : Outlook & Pick

While Notre Dame looked solid in their opening win, it should not be lost how close that game was, and a couple of key plays early on in the game could have had Notre Dame opening with a loss. The Fighting Irish seem to have a little more fight in them this season, but after watching what Robinson did to the Huskies week one, it looks as though Michigan is one of those teams that could provide an upset, and at the very least keep it close.

Bet On Football Pick: Michigan +3.5
