Bet On Football – Cowboys Open 2010-11 Home Schedule Against Da Bears

September 19, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys open the potential journey to the 2011 Super Bowl in Dallas with their home opener at Cowboys Stadium against the Chicago Bears this weekend. The Cowboys have flirted with contention for the Vince Lombardi trophy over the past couple of seasons, but have failed to generate when it matters the most, consistently falling short late in the season and in the playoffs. Dallas fell to the division rival Washington Redskins 13-7 week one, and will be looking to avoid opening their season winless in two in a year where expectations are so high.

Bet On Football: What The Bears Will Have To Do To Win

A questionable decision by the referees gave the Bears their first win of the season, beating the Detroit Lions 19-14 on the road in a game that could have very well gone the other way. Chicago got away with the win after Lions’ wide receiver Calvin Johnson didn’t maintain possession on a potential touchdown catch that would have put Detroit in position to win late in the game, and that was enough for the Bears to escape with a victory. Quarterback Jay Cutler threw for 372 yards of offense while running back Matt Forte rumbled for 50 more. That duo will have to be even better this week to stay undefeated.

Bet On Football: What The Cowboys Will Have To Do To Win

Whether head coach Wade Phillips specifically told Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to make his offense spike the ball on the final play of the first half or not, Phillips must be fuming after the way the play carried out with no time left on the clock in the first half of Dallas’ 13-7 week one loss. Perhaps some insight in to his immaturity as an NFL coach, Garrett drew up an HB option play out of the backfield for running back Tashard Choice from the Cowboys’ 30-yard line with seconds left in the first half, only to watch Choice fumble on the play, and Redskins’ cornerback DeAngelo Hall run it in for the touchdown. The play had little upside, and ended up costing the team the game, something Dallas will have to put in the past in order to regroup in time for their home opener. The defense was solid in the loss, and will need to continue operating at a high level while the offense comes around.

Bet On Football: Outlook & Pick

While the Bears’ offense looked good against the Lions, there is still work to do. That said, taking away eight points from a Dallas team that opened the season with a six-point loss in a game that they were favored in seems unreasonable, especially when it is the same Cowboys team that is so well-known for choking.
