Bet on Baseball – Can Phillies Rebound as MLB Betting Favorite in Atlanta?
April 21, 2010
The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves are now in the same exact boat, with identical records and both holding onto their statuses as NL East betting favorites. The betting odds have Philadelphia listed as an MLB betting favorite and the Braves as the MLB betting underdog, the opposite of yesterday’s game in which the Braves took home a one-run victory at home.
The Phillies will try and bounce back and regain their status as the NL East division betting favorite once and for all but it will be tough on the road.
Philadelphia Phillies (8-5 record) at Atlanta Braves (8-5)
7:10 pm ET, Turner Field. TV: ESPN
MLB betting odds: Phillies are the favorite at -1 ½, -155; +135 for the Braves to win SU
The Phillies will turn to their likely staff ace in Roy Halladay, whom they acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the off-season, to battle against Tim Hudson for the Braves.
Hudson is a crafty veteran but he doesn’t have the same combination of velocity and stuff that Halladay does as a recent Cy Young winner in the better-hitting American League.
The Phillies also have the superior offense and they demonstrated it in game one of this series by out-hitting the Braves.
Plus, the betting favorite Phillies have superior batting stats across the board.
With a better all-around and more diverse batting lineup going into this game the Phillies are a good MLB betting free pick to win on the road at Turner Field against the MLB betting underdog Braves by a solid margin.
The Braves are showing off their status as a possible NL East betting odds contender but the Phillies have more staying power according to most and should be the odds-on NL East favorite once they get by the Braves tonight and take a one-game lead back behind Halladay, who should be one of the best pitchers in the National League when the 2010 MLB season is all said and done.
MLB betting pick: Philadelphia Phillies (-1 ½), -155.
