Bet on Baseball – Royals vs Rays
May 2, 2010
Baseball’s best team will look to extend their winning ways.
But will they be able to do it in Sunday’s baseball betting, when they take on last year’s best pitcher?
Sunday, May 2: 1:40 p.m.
That pitcher would be Kansas City’s Zack Greinke, the winner of the 2009 AL Cy Young Award. While Greinke hasn’t quite been as dominating in 2010 as he was a year ago, he’s still been pretty darn good, as he has a 2.56 ERA, and is again among the league leaders in strikeouts. Greinke is still looking for his first win of 2010 however.
Kansas City Royals (8-14 SU, 12-10 R/L, 14-8) at
Tampa Bay Rays (17-5 SU, 15-7 R/L, 14-8 O/U)
- Kansas City: (Zack Greinke)
- Tampa Bay: (Wade Davis)
Opposing Greinke on the mound will be one of the brightest young pitchers in baseball, Wade Davis. Davis doesn’t get a lot of pub pitching in the same rotation as Matt Garza, Jamie Shields and David Price, but has been almost as good as each. On the season, Davis is 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA.
In his last three starts he’s pitched 16 innings, and given up just five earned runs.
As for these two team’s offenses, Tampa Bay definitely has the advantage. Tampa has a deep and athletic group, and one that is skilled from top to bottom. Leading them is the young Evan Longoria, an emerging superstar in the sport.
On the season, Longoria is hitting .329 with four home runs and 16 RBI. Rounding out the lineup are Carl Crawford (.341 batting average), and Carlos Pena, who leads this team with five home runs.
There isn’t nearly as much pop in Kansas City’s lineup, but still some surprisingly talented players. Leading the way is the man who has the second highest batting average in the American League, outfielder Scott Podsednik.
While it’s unrealistic to expect Podsednik to continue batting .359 (As he is coming into the weekend, there’s no doubt that he is on his way to a career best average. Billy Butler, Jose Guillen and Alberto Callaspo add depth to this lineup.
However, this lineup is still a long ways from catching up with Tampa Bay’s and still a long way from being ready to compete in this series. Because of it, take the Rays.
Tampa Bay is baseball’s hottest team, and watching them, it’s little surprise why. They have five great starters (Davis, if you can believe it, is their No. 5), and a great offensive lineup.
Not only is this team built to win big this year, they may end up as baseball’s World Series champion.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet though. Instead, simply make the Rays your baseball bet on Sunday afternoon.
