May 5, 2011

The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks send starting pitchers with 3-1 season records to the mound tonight as each looks for his third consecutive win.

The D’Backs host the Rockies at Chase Field for the final game in the three-game series, as the teams have split the first two.

The Sportsbook makes it easy to bet on baseball, with Arizona listed as the unlikely favorite tonight, with the run total set at nine runs.

Colorado Rockies (18-10) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (13-16)

Thursday, May 5 at 9:40 PM ET

Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona

TV: RT, FSAZ

Bet on Baseball Odds: Colorado +1.5, Arizona -1.5, Run Total: 9 runs

The Rockies, although leading the National League West, had lost two straight before pulling out the win last night over Arizona. Led by the offensive power of Chris Iannetta with a two-run homer and Carlos Gonzalez, who contributed two hits, the Rockies got the win and look to build on it tonight.

Colorado sends Jason Hammel to the stripe, in search of his third win. In each of his last two wins, Hammel allowed only one run in each game. Against the D’Backs, he is 2-1 with an ERA of 5.48.

Opposite Hammel will be Ian Kennedy of Arizona. Also with two consecutive wins, Kennedy has allowed only four runs in his last three starts, which is over 22 innings of baseball. Against the Rockies, Kennedy is 0-1 with an ERA of 3.66, but has not gotten a decision in his last five outings against Colorado.

MLB Pitching Matchup:

J. Hammel (3-1, ERA 3.23) vs. I. Kennedy (3-1, ERA 3.92)

The bat of Carlos Gonzalez is on fire again. After a 0-22 drought, he is back on top of the ball, getting hits in eight of his last 17 at-bats

The teams have split the first two games of the series, with the D’Backs taking Game 1 by one run and the Rockies winning Game 2 by two runs. Although Arizona is playing at home, the team has yet to reach .500 on the season and has failed to play consistent baseball.

With very comparable solid pitching to start the game, the advantage goes to Colorado for their offensive batting power. The team has shown that it has several players in the line-up that can contribute, as in last night’s win. The best MLB bet tonight is against the baseball odds and on the Colorado Rockies to get the win.
