MLB Betting Odds
St Louis Cardinals -1½ -135 -225 ( Chris Carpenter – R )
Pittsburgh Pirates +1½ +115 +185 ( Zach Duke – L )
Game Total 8.
The Cardinals have lost three in a row, dropping the final three games of a four game set to the Philadelphia Phillies. The bats went silent and with the Phillies dominant pitching the Cards didn’t stand a chance.
The Cardinals batters should come alive against Zach Duke and the Pirates; Duke is 4-5 with a 3.73 ERA in 13 career starts versus St. Louis and this season he’s 2-3 and his ERA is a big 6.09 and his WHIP is 1.71.
The Cardinals will be riding Albert Pujols; Pujols has hit safely in 11 straight games and have a .415 average during the stretch. Lifetime at PNC Park, Pujols has 23 homeruns and 69 RBI, the most he’s hit in any visiting park.
On the mound for the Cardinals is 2005 CY Young winner Chris Carpenter, who like Pujols…actually like almost everyone…has had a ton of success versus the Pirates with an 11-1 record and a 2.27 ERA in 13 career starts and his loss came in 2004.
Carpenter has been money against the Pirates and this season he’s gone 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA this season.
The Pirates haven’t been as bad as they normally are this late in the season, at home the Bucs are 4 games over .500 at home and they are just as close to first place as they are to last place in the NL Central.
They are coming into this series after sweeping the Chicago Cubs in a three game series but it has been there pitching that has gotten them to where they are right now as their bats rank 15th out of 16 teams in the NL.
In tonight’s game, all signs point to a Cardinals victory. Chris Carpenter is on the mound and as dominant as ever, Albert Pujols loves playing in Pittsburgh, the Pirates bats are comatose right now and Zach Duke is on the mound with his inflated WHIP and ERA. The Cardinals win this one with relative ease.
