Bet NFL Spreads By Taking Tampa -6.0 Against Seattle
December 26, 2010
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their playoff chances crippled by a stunning upset against the Detroit Lions, and everyone that bet NFL game lines last weekend with Tampa was thrown under the bus. Now they stand as home favorites against another team with a losing record, with Charlie Whitehurst likely getting the start.
Tampa shouldn’t be hanging their heads about the loss to Detroit. They have been ravaged by injuries, most notable with center Jeff Faine’s absence. The loss of defensive end McCoy and cornerback Talib in the secondary has also made them much more vulnerable in the passing game. Tampa is also just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after the loss to Detroit, and saw their undefeated record against teams with losing records vanish.

The turnaround for the Young Bucs has been nothing short of a miracle, though some handicappers (such as yours truly) suggested that the wouldn’t be as big of a punching bag as people expected. As is usually the case with young teams, however, the end of the season is a dangerous wasteland and the Bucs have been caught in an 0-3 ATS streak over their past three games so if you bet NFL game lines, then tread lightly with Tampa.
Seattle Seahawks (6-8) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6)

NFL Game Lines: Tampa Bay -6.0 (44.0)
Still, what the hell could you possible be encouraged by with Seattle? At just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last 5 games, it’s obvious that Matt Hasslebeck should be rested so this team can get a better look at Charlie Whitehurst.
An honorable performance last weekend by Whitehurst may encourage some people to bet NFL games lines with Seattle toting a new quarterback, but there’s absolutely nothing to be said about a quarterback picking up points and yards in garbage time on the wrong side of a blowout.
The Seahawks have typically enjoyed this matchup. At 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against the Bucs, there’s plenty of reason to enjoy this matchup from a historical trends standpoint.
That hardly keeps in mind that Seattle’s rushing defense will get ground to dust by the bulldozing LeGarrette Blount and the resurgence of Carnell Williams (I still refuse to call him Cadillac). This is harsh line to play, but we can still hold value in one invaluable truth about this league: always bet NFL game lines going against Seattle when they’re on the road and Whitehurst won’t change any of that.
