Bet NFL Football Over-Under When Jets Visit Denver Broncos

October 17, 2010

One thing we know for sure in this game is that the New York Jets still have plenty to prove when they face the Denver Broncos, and the best bet in this game may very well be the football over-under. I lambasted the Jets’ performance against Minnesota because they failed to score a touchdown until the fourth quarter, and barely won a game why should’ve had strict control of.

If they can’t take complete control of their matchup against Denver on the road, I’m willing to low ball them a little in the rankings as well.

The New York Jets are 7-1 SU in their last 8 road games, but have traditionally failed to cover when playing Denver. In fact, they’re 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games against Denver. On the road, things get even worse, where they’re just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games against the Broncos.

Things aren’t much better for the home team either, which is why I’m encouraging a bet on the football over-under. Denver is just 2-5 SU in their last 7 home games, and have gone 5-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall at INVESCO Field.

Banking on Brandon Lloyd and Kyle Orton to match up well against one of the best pass defense in the league is also a huge stretch of the imagination, but I’m not wholly convinced by the Jets as a monster team. That’s why the over-under in this game holds much more value to me.

New York Jets (4-1) vs. Denver Broncos (2-3)

Sunday, October 17th — INVESCO Field — 4:05pm EST

NFL Football Line: NYJ -3.0

NFL Football Over Under: O 41.0 -110 / U 41.0 -110

Historically, the Broncos usually play great defense at home and their offense simply hasn’t been good enough since Jay Cutler’s departure to put up massive points. They’re 12-4 in terms of the football over-under when playing at home.

When playing the New York Jets, they’ve also held the UNDER in four of their last five meetings. This may not be a huge amount of points to score if you think about it mathematically, but the Jets seem resilient to score touchdowns at will like they’re capable of.

Still, the way I see this game going, the Jets are probably going to get up early and sit on a lead forcing Denver to throw and causing a lot of punting in this game. If Rex Ryan has done anything with Mark Sanchez, it’s play it safe. He doesn’t want this young quarterback subjected to the screwball scrutiny of the press for losing games.

Denver is not a great scoring team, and they’re also a one-sided team with a passing game that shouldn’t be succeeding like it is. Their red zone offense is predictable, and the Jets will sniff out chances for turnovers. This game will be low scoring overall as the Jets squat on a tight lead, and Denver gets suffocated in their own house as the football over-under leads to less than 41.0 points.
