The Philadelphia Eagles are Bet NFL winners of six of their last seven games and have become one of the most explosive teams in the league over that span. One man has made the difference for this team – Michael Vick.
Vick leads the NFL in quarterback rating, has passed for 2513 yards, 17 touchdown and four interceptions while running for another 483 yards and seven scores. He’s dynamic folks and can beat you with his arm, legs, and finally his brain! The Eagles have scored at least 26 points in the seven games that he has started this season including a 27-17 victory over the Giants in November.
Weapons – you want weapons? How about DeSean Jackson who went for 210 yards last week, a sure-handed Jeremy Maclin and one of the most dangerous dual threat backs in the game – LeSean McCoy. The Eagles are a handful, that’s for sure.
Defensively the Eagles have been good this season. They are 17th against the pass (224.31 yards per game) and are 11th versus the run (103.54 yards per game). In the first meeting between the clubs, the Eagles defense held the Giants to just 208 yards and forced five turnovers. This unit leads the league in interceptions (22) and turnover differential (+15). However, the Eagles will play without two key cogs on the defensive side of the ball – Stewart Bradley and Brandon Graham were both lost for the season.
The New York Giants had the Bet NFL week from hell last week after their game in Minneapolis was cancelled and rescheduled for a different city 24 hours later. They still came out and destroyed the Minnesota Vikings to remain tied with the Eagles.
The Giants rank 12th in passing (237.08 yards per game) and 4th in rushing (148.31 yards per game). The problem has been a league high 19 interceptions by Eli Manning and an NFL high six fumbles by Ahmad Bradshaw. Receiver Steve Smith is gone for the season and Mario Manningham is highly questionable for the game making the running game essential. Expect the Giants to lean on Jacobs and Bradshaw to move the chains and to control the clock in this game.
Defensively, the Giants rank 2nd against the pass (185.92 yards per game) and 5th against the run (95.15 yards per game). This unit held Adrian Peterson in check last week and did a good job of containing Michael Vick only a month ago.
Bet NFL Outlook:
The Philadelphia Eagles are 5-1 SU in their last six games. On the road, they are 5-2 SU in their last seven games and are 3-6 ATS in nine. The Eagles are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six games against the Giants.
The New York Giants are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games. At home, they are 4-1 SU in their last five games and are 4-9 ATS in their last 13. The Giants are 0-5 SU in their last five games against Philadelphia and are 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five at home against the Eagles.
This will be a close game and I think that it is the Giants’ turn to win one. This is a huge revenge game for New York and one that they need in order to consider themselves among the NFL elite. With the injuries on the defensive side of the ball for Philadelphia, they appear ripe for the picking. The Giants appeared to have a decent formula against Michael Vick in their first game and with Vick looking more mortal each week, I think the Giants can prevail.
Bet NFL Pick: New York Giants -3
